Or even more simply put, here is an Image I quickly made. The green is the original release showing all the sound, the pinkish color is the remastered version of which I only lowered the volume to match the original. Everything above the pink color has been cut off of the record and can be considered lost, and it sounds quite honestly god awfull...

It has mostly to do to get/draw attention, a louder tracks will be noticed earlier then a softer one. It's marketing really...
