It's not straight-forward dance music imo! Listen to stuff like How High and Let It Will Be. Those songs mixed spirituality with dance. Usually those themes are diametrically opposed. Also the music was very much ahead of its time.

The lyrics in I Love New York are hilarious! I've always had a feeling that that song was meant to be ironic and take the piss out of itself.

I can see where you're coming from. I guess I always viewed Confessions as a way to bring back her core audience. American Life underperformed and the sound she created with that album was different from anything she had ever done. Confessions took her back to the beginning of her career when she was performing dance music. Throw in some religion and voilà! You have "How to make a Madonna album 101."

That's pretty true. While I love Confessions with all my heart, there are a couple of meh tracks so to speak.... I honestly think Bedtime Stories should be up there with the rest of her albums... but Music.... oh my god.. Definitely one of her best albums to be honest. <3

On another note... the Nightlife Edition of MDNA is flawless.. it does GMAYL justice and it actually sounds much better.

And it has like 7 tracks from MDNA (a good mix between standard edition and deluxe edition tracks) and 7 exclusive remixes, so it's 14 songs for only $3.50! That's a steal!

Yeah, I think I might be in the minority when it comes to thinking American Life and Erotica are some of her best work. The albums are flawed, but I think it's these flaws are what make them great.

At least she has such a large back catalogue so we can all pick and choose our favorites!
