I can work the game through the Dosbox setting, but audio effects are a tad later which is annoying, large areas lag (even through the Windows and VDos32 settings when I have to go Run as Administrator) and the unlock key isn't saved so I have to keep putting it in...

It's been a long time since I've played tr1, are the scanlines in the fmv's part of the video, or are they an artifact caused by the way this installer sets up dosbox?

not really
as far as fmvs go I pretty much left it as default
but you can always try and customize that part of the rendering
by opening the \tombraider\*.conf files
there you go to the

section

there you can edit fullscreen= toggling it between true and false
crank up fullresolution= so as to match your own display max resolution as long as you keep the 4:3 ratio
finally
surface,overlay,opengl,openglnb,ddraw and direct3d make up the whole spectrum for output= assignments
all are not viable of course as it's easy to find out

up to you to appraise what combo suits you best.

Hello!

I need a lil' help here.

So, I installed the 1.6 installer + the patch (because without it, I had corrupted FMV).
The game runs fine, the FMV does play, but half of the time, when I load a game (or right after a FMV), the image freezes but the sound plays. I have to load again to play properly... And then, after a few times of this, it leads to a crash.

Any suggestion?

This is great, without this program I couldn't get music/dialogue to play.

I only have 3 issues with it, 2 of them are minor:

- The game crashes to desktop about 50% of the time that I press F5, F6 or Esc.

- The game stretches to fill my 1366x768 screen. I have edited the files "dosboxTR164.conf" and "dosbox.conf" so that they read:

This only results in the introduction videos being in this correct resolution, but when it comes to the game menu, the screen blacks out for a second to change back to the incorrect, stretched-out resolution.

- I can see objects through walls, such as enemies, pickups, doors, spikes, etc. I changed my OpenGL settings as suggested but it did not fix the problem.

EDIT: I am running 64-bit Win7.

as I wrote in some earlier post of mine:

because all the *.conf tweaks will only affect fmv rendering whatever you do

for gameplay to go unstretched once for all you only have to fix the "keep ratio" setting (ie to stay 4:3 compliant) in the gfx card display properties, namely outside any installer or dosbox configuration options

that's definitely an issue with the gfx card which is.... (> diagnose.exe-report for more info)
trying to apply the patch for fmv problems shouldn't hurt either although that's not the reason I made it for

otherwise it's all about how your card drivers handle the depth buffer or fail to.

So, everytime I load a game, I have to load it again because the image freezes right after the loading (I can hear the ambiant sound, my steps, the menu if I open it, but the screen remains frozen). After a couple of time of this, opening the menu, saving or loading makes the game crashes.
The FMV does play, but if there is a cutscene right after it, the image freezes again, so it's a real pain.

What I don't understand is that a year ago, on the same system, with the same video card, the game was running perfectly fine. =/

I uninstalled/reinstalled three times, even tried with an alternative install I found somewhere on this thread (which removed all my FMV and made my game buggy lol).
I did read about the cycle, but didn't understand really. I might try random things in the *.conf files if that's what you suggest.

Edit: Playing with the cycle didn't resolve my issues. The screen still freezes after every loading (until I reload a savefile).
