My internet connection sucks

Hey everyone, my internet connection sucks. I takes extremely large amounts of time to load things, such as web pages, pictures, videos, etc. I cannot download a file with a higher KB/sec rate of about 40-60 (which, mind you, is anguishing) and my connection sometimes just goes completely out and the internet stops working momentarily. I can't really switch providers, as I don't pay and I can't convince my parents otherwise, so I need some help. Any suggestions? I can try to provide as much information as I can, but I don't have a plethora of information about computers. Thanks in advance, though.

What provider are you currently on?

Do a speedtest and we'll see what speeds you get on avg.

Also it'd depend where you live as to what providers you'd be able to subscribe to & how much bandwidth you'd be able to get. Do you live in the countryside/urban areas?

As for getting your parents to switch providers, you'll need to look up other providers and check their pricing & the bandwidth they provide and compare it to the amount your parents currently pay. If it's better bandwidth and pricing, then I'd try and use that to convince them

But we need to know where you are from though.

Like TRfan23 said, it may depend on where you are situated - a possibility that you a living a significant distance from your local exchange, resulting in the lower speeds. It could be a number of other factors too.

Let's see what results the speedtest reads first...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Ill give them a try. As for the speed test, I will most likely do that when I get home later as I can't do that now. But I'll keep you updated on the results.
