I started replaying today and I noticed that the game has way more combat than I even remember from player just months ago. It seems odd to me and sometimes feels like a little too much.
Does anyone agree?

I only think combat was too excessive in TR2, in TR1 i didn't think combat was too much centric not that it wasn't though but i think TR2 was much more centered in that as well as TR3.

TR2 is indeed, 50% combat. TR1 feels nice and balanced to me. It's only annoying when enemies knock you off ledges or catch you by surprise.
TR3 feels less combat heavy than TR2, but mostly because the game is longer and the level layout is more cryptic. There was an excessive amount of weaponry to a point that was almost laughable.

I agree. It's a lot more combat oriented than I remember. When I got the GOG version of it, I noticed that every few minutes I was killing something.
Which I'm okay with, since things in TR1 die after a reasonable amount of shots. ~glares at TR2~ EDIT: @Sheeps TR3 has a lot of combat?

I don't think I have noticed that the combat was to much.
TR2 had way more to the point I find it rediculous.. TR3 I find it more puzzle and adventure.

When I recently revisited the original, I had forgotten how many enemies there were; especially in the Greece level with the aqueduct.
As special as the original is to me, I have never been truly comfortable blasting various species of wildlife with shotguns and revolvers. I would much rather be shooting genuine nasties like bad guys or demons as opposed to animals...
