Hey comic-readers I have no idea what's been happening in the comics since the first story arc of the rebooted series (Season of the witch) and I'd love to quickly catch up on the story. I was wondering if some kind soul would write (or post a link to) something that quickly breaks down what's been happening so far.

The very first arc takes place six weeks after the expedition and the group is being hunted by Solarii worshipers who want to resurrect Mathias. They need Lara's blood and a bunch of artifacts to resurrect him. They kidnap Sam and lead Lara back to Yamatai. The endurance crew go there and stop the ritual and everything goes fine. Lara gets visions from Alex informing her to save his sister Kaz, a former Trinity member. She heads to Chernobyl and fends off Trinity member Dr.Cruzz (who I thought was a cool villain) . Kaz ends up joining the group and lives with Lara and Sam. Lara also joins Jonah's Pride and Prejudice stage show. Dr.Cruz is still alive though and tries to kill Kaz. Lara fends him off (in a dress!) and kills him. The queen serpents arc has Lara find out that Grim was kidnapped by a bandit group called "The Serpents that walk". The group go under the guise of a documentary group investigating the Chupacabra monster. Lara infiltrates the camp and is captured by the queen of serpents. However, the captive isn't Grim, but his twin brother Cuddy. They escape but then we find out that Himiko is still inside of Sam. Due to her possession,Sam acts out in a fit of anger and assaults a man. She's imprisoned in a mental ward and Rise of the tomb raider starts there. Post Rise Not much happens in the first arc. It's just Lara helping a professor search for the mushroom of immortality while fending off the Knights Of the Spore ( I think) Sam escapes and is completely possessed by Himiko. She leads a bunch of inmates and commits a bunch of crimes. Trinity attempts to neutralize Sam/Himiko while Lara attempts to save Sam. They finally free her of Himiko's grasp and save her. Lara tells Sam's mother to take her far away to protect her from Trinity. |

I read the first issue of the newest arc, so might as well ramble here.
I don't like the premise of this arc. Lara doesn't need to know how her dad died. She got closure in RotTR, there's no need to go any further with it. Whatever, hopefully we get to learn more about Trinity or something. I liked the lack of dialogue in this issue. It's mostly action which was fun. The panel composition is better than the Phillip Sevy comics, but...the art style. I have no idea what's going on with the art style. Sometimes it's decent, and then sometimes it looks SO bad. The backgrounds (when actually drawn) look pretty nice, and the color palette is good, but the people can look weird. Lara looks off, sometimes in a charming way but mostly in an awkward way. When the art is at it's worst, it looks like a WikiHow drawing. I miss Phillip Sevy's sharper style |
