Yeah, I remember my Sega Saturn games quite fondly, though if I'm honest we spent more time on Sega Genesis games even through the early years of 3D games. My early 3D experience was through PC games mostly. Things like Doom or Duke Nukem 3D. There was another one that was asian inspired hack and slash FP game but I can't remember the name of it now...

And of course Tomb Raider 1 and 2 on PC.

But yeah, on the Saturn I remember NiGHTS into Dreams quite well. PS1 also had some really nice titles as well. Spyro 1 will always be one of my absolute favourites, despite how short it was. The only Crash game I played was Warped and a few of those cart kinda games, but those are pretty memorable too.

We may have superior graphics these days but sometimes I feel like current gen games fall short in the creative department... Sometimes I think because they had such limitations in older games they had to think of more creative ways to accomplish what they were going after and sometimes the product of that was much more interesting. Not that I have anything against realism in games but, it really feels like everyone is quite obsessed with it now.

And you'll see why the Saturn was much better as a complex 3D console instead of an ultimate 2D machine with 3D as an after thought.
I had to laugh after I read this because I was just reminded of SOTN and it's development on PS was based on it's 3D architecture rather then one on 2D (which is clearly inferior to SEGA's hardware). When the game was ported, they couldn't keep some of the effects intact and there was a fair deal of slowdown in parts.

I wonder if this style of development is still in use today?
