Default It seems we found our possible Mathias: Walton Goggins

Well, title says it all.
And he seems to really like the script which is a plus. Let's see if these movie turns out to be enjoyable

Quote:
Earlier this month, it was reported that Walton Goggins — who is best known for his roles in The Hateful Eight, Justified, and The Shield — landed the main villain role in Warner Bros, MGM and GK Films reboot of Tomb Raider. A week later, Yahoo caught up with the 45-year-old Emmy-nominated actor and got him to chat about the upcoming project: its director, its lead, and its script.

“This director is an extraordinarily talented filmmaker, and Alicia Vikander I’ve met a few times, we have some friends in common, but I just think she’s one of the greatest contributions to any generation of actors, man” Goggins shared. “That for me was just a wonderful opportunity. But more importantly, the story is so good. It’s so good! I think I can say this: For me, it’s like Raiders of the Lost Ark meets a genre version of the Joseph Conrad novel Victory: An Island Tale. I just jumped at the chance.”

Though he didn't provide any meaty details, Goggins did say there are “there are real reasons behind his” his character's “antagonism, and it’s not what you’d expect.” He added, “He is very complicated, and his motivations are pure.” Sounds intriguing!

It not new, but there's no harm in having a separate thread.

Interesting, I didn't think he'd play Mathias. I wonder if it's legit or just edited.

My gut feeling thinks it's probably legit -- a random fan would've likely have put it as "Mathias" and left it at that. The fact that someone took the trouble to add the "father" qualifier makes me think it's someone at WB/MGM.

Given that they announced Daniel Wu's character, maybe they realized they hadn't done likewise with Walton and took corrective action?

Did you think Walton was playing a new villain?

if it is legit, I hope they build his character better than in the game.

At first I'd thought he may play Mathias but as time went on and more was announced about the film and it's changes I began to think he may be another rival archaeologist or something. Also didn't he say he was ready to raid some Tombs. Seems to me a more archaeologist thing to say.

If he does play Mathias then I hope he is developed well. Maybe he had a wife and children back at home before getting stuck on the island or maybe they'll introduce elements from Rise and have him trying to fight an incurable disease. I have to say given a choice over the villain being a cult leader or a Tomb Raider, I'd prefer a cult leader.
