I’m super excited to announce that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is now live on CoreOnline! If you’re not familiar with the Square Enix platform, CoreOnline lets you play high-definition games via your browser for free.
Current CoreOnline games include Hitman: Blood Money, Mini Ninjas, and Guardian of LIght. Hapti.co – the new Square Enix studio focusing on browser games – is hard at work preparing Tomb Raider: Underworld and Gyromancer for launch, too.
So, how does it work? Take a gander at the video above for a quick tutorial. Square Enix has also addressed a few frequently asked questions below.
How is it free?
Players get access to entire games for free because advertising funds the games. Most often users will have a choice of adverts to watch in order to earn their game time.
How often to ads appear?
Most often you’ll earn 20 minutes of game time for a one-minute advertisement. This may vary slightly. The longer the advert, the more game time you’ll earn. If you don’t want to watch the ads, you can purchase levels or the full game.
Do I need to register to play?
You don’t have to register, but if you’d like to carry your game time over between sessions registering is a good idea. Registering also allows you persistent game save, achievements, and so on.
Do I need a powerful PC to play these high definition games?
CoreOnline will work on most modern connected Windows PCs using an updated major browser.
The game is made available via a combination of Google and Square Enix proprietary technology, which allows for support of Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. As a bonus, the support of Google’s Native Client on Chrome lets Mac users get in on the fun!
