Good to see Parks and Recreation getting a bit of recognition, but other than that I'm kind of confused by some of these picks...
Jane Krakowski for Outstanding Supporting Actress? There's nothing about her character/acting that's outstanding in any way. She just plays a spoiled/ narcissistic woman the same way every time. And this is coming from someone who absolutely adores 30 Rock. Same with Mayim Bialik for The Big Bang Theory. She might be a good actress in other roles but Amy is just all kinds of uninteresting. There's not much acting to be done for a character that's always either stoic or slightly giddy. And as much as I enjoy TBBT, I don't see it coming even close to being worthy of a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. All of this is IMO, obviously. I'm both confused and slightly angry that Hannibal didn't get any nominations. I guess everyone was wary because of all the gore or something. |

As for Bialik and Krakowski - HOW DARE YOU Those are two of my favorite characters on TV right now I don't think that Jenna is played the same way every time. I mean, sure there's a familiarity to her performance, but unless someone is like Toni Collette in United States of Tara (in which she plays multiple characters of both sexes and various ages), the acting is going to be "the same" to the effect that it's a consistent performance. If she's the same, so is literally everyone on 30 Rock. |

But let's take Liz Lemon's character for example: I think it actually takes quite a bit of acting effort to make her seem sympathetic when she's this unconventional tomboy-like woman. Some people even find her character gross because she's portrayed a bit like a guy, so Tina Fey always has to figure out how to come across as sympathetic and funny to the audience without losing some of her character. But Jenna's character is meant to be that "love to hate" sort, so she doesn't have to worry about much and can play her the same every time, without going back and forth between mean/shallow and connecting with the audience. She just stays shallow because it's considered funnier. That's what I mean by not putting in much acting effort, if that makes any sense. |

Crossing my fingers for Kerry Washington in Scandal. The acting in that show is consistently excellent
