Hi guys, I was wondering if you wouldnt mind having a once over at this little revision sheet I just filled out:
Question 1 (6 points) Situationen. For each of the following situations, give an appropriate German phrase. 1. You want to know what today’s date is. Den wievielten haben wir heute? 2. Your sister and brother-in-law just had a baby, and you want to congratulate them. Gratulieren! 3. You want to know a new friend’s birthday. Wann hast du Geburtstag? Question 2 (4 points) Mein Leben an der Uni. Complete the sentences that Uli wrote about university life; use the correct prepositions. Choose from the list below. durch gegen ohne für um 1. Ich habe kein Sofa. Ich brauche eins __für________ mein Zimmer. 2. Mein Zimmer ist sehr klein, und ich höre meine Nachbarn immer ___gegen__ die Wände. 3. Ich habe kein Auto. Das Leben ist nicht leicht ___ohne________ Auto. 4. Ich beginne meinen Tag immer ___um_____ 7 Uhr. Question 3. (8 points) Mach schnell! Frau Steiner is giving a party at 8 o’clock. It is already 7.30pm and things are not yet ready. So, she is telling everyone what she wants them to do. Express her wishes in the imperative. Don’t forget to use the exclamation mark. 1. Frau Steiner’s Sohn Markus: schnell zum Supermarkt / fahren Du fahrt zum Supermarkt schnelle! 2. Frau Steiner’s Mann Hubert: Die Geburtstagstorte / abholen Du holst die Geburtstagstorte ab! 3. Frau Steiner’s Töchter Emma und Anne: das Essen / kochen Emma und Anne kocht das Essen! 4. Ein Partygast Herr Rothe: seinen CD-Spieler / mitbringen Bringen Sie CD-Spieler mit! Question 4 (8 points) Wie spät ist es? Look at the times below and write out the time for each one. Spell out the numbers. Please use two different ways to express the time. Beispiel: 13.40 Uhr Es is ein Uhr dreißig. Thanks abunch |

Wow. Your answers are really great. The only thing that went a bit wrong is the Imerative. But let's start with the first question.
2. --> In german you normally just say "Glückwunsch" if you want to congratulate somebody. If you want to use the verb "gratulieren", then it would only be "Gratuliere!", but Glückwunsch is the most common word. Second question: You made one mistake. It should be: Ich höre meinen Nachbarn durch die Wände. Third question: You don't need the subject in the german imperative, but if you want to state clearly who shuold do something than you put the subject at the end of the phrase. Also the "du" isn't needed and the form of the verb you used is wrong. It's normally the first person (mostly without the e at the end of the word): (gehen (nfinitive) - ich gehe (1st person) - Geh! (1st person without e at the end - imperative singular - geht (imperative plural; fahren (infinitive) - ich fahre (1st person) - Fahr(e) (1st person - imperative singular) - fahrt! (imperative plural)) The right answer for the first phrase would be: Fahre schnell zum Supermarkt. And if you want to you can also write: Fahre schnell zum Supermarkt, Markus. Fourth question: In the example is wrong. The ways of saying it's 13:40 are: 1. es ist ein Uhr vierzig 2. es ist dreizehn Uhr vierzig 3. es ist zwanzig vor zwei So let's come to your answers: 1. Instead of saying: es ist viertel nach vierzehn, we normally say "Es ist viertel nach zwei" 2. Your two answers are two different times Es ist neun Uhr fünfzig or "Es ist einundzwanzig Uhr fpünfzig" would be correct. 3. It should be "fünfunddreißig Minuten nach eins" 4. Both ways are correct and you can also say: es ist null Uhr. |

Different verbs are followed by different object cases (if that makes any sense)
The word "erklaeren" is followed by the dativ (object) whereas "fragen" is followed by the accusative (object). I guess it is a matter of learning which goes with which. I have looked for some links but those that refer to the German grammar are written in German and I do not know how fluent you are. http://www.mein-deutschbuch.de/lernen.php?menu_id=41 http://www.saunalahti.fi/~michi1/ueb...ilfe.htm#vrekt http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourc...+und+Akkusativ I still hope this helps.
