E3 2018

Synopsis
Twenty years after a fungal infection obliterated most of the U.S. population and turned the victims into infected monstrosities, Joel (a man who lost his daughter in the first outbreak) is tasked with escorting Ellie (an immune teenager) to the Fireflies to help reverse engineer a cure. Part II follow up their journey five years later.

Neil Druckmann's explained the existence of the sequel in an interview with Kotaku:
Quote:
I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.

What we know
Ellie is the main playable character. She's 19.
The game will explore the theme of "hatred" and has been in development for 1 year and a half already. Neil, Ashley (Ellie) and Troy (Joel) have all been very vocal that we should trust them, they know what they are doing.

As of December 10th 2017, the game was said to be 50-60% done. Expect gameplay at E3 2018.

It's going to be a long wait. I fear late 2018 or even 19

Btw, isn't anyone gonna comment that this is in-game? I mean, the graphics are beyond words!

It was?

Visuals during cutscenes were always good anyway. I believe The Last of Us' ones were reprendered (since you can pretty much watch all of them on the go from the main menu).

It'll be the same as UC4. No transitions from cutscenes to gameplay I would imagine. I wanna see Joel!

Didn't the guy say it's in-game? I could be wrong But TLoU had prerendered cutscenes cause it was on the ps3. UC4 on the other hand had very few of those' if any. So I can only imagine now that they are gonna go full on in-game cutscenes.

TLOU had pre-rendered cutscenes, that's true. Uncharted 4 had real time cutscenes, and I believe this does too, it looks incredible!

But do we need another thread? I feel like we could just update the other thread.

I had mixed feelings, but I believe starting something fresh could do some good which is why I went ahead. It will also allow us to talk freely about spoilers from TLOU1 since this thread is about the sequel.
