Monster Hunter World
I did a search for a Monster Hunter World topic and couldn't find one if one already exists this one can be locked.
Has anyone managed to take down Barroth either solo or online? I switched from sword to hammer to insect glaive and back to hammer and upgraded my armour a few times and still haven't gotten past him, on one of many attempts to kill him the ground opened up and he disappeared I only managed to avoid falling in by somehow snaring a creature that was flying overhead, I jumped into the hole to continue the fight and was killed by a creature that I think was called a Diablo. The most annoying part about fighting Barroth apart from being killed repeatedly is his annoying tendency to run away. |

I got past Barroth online last night with the help of two hunters, the most irritating thing when hunting is a creatures tendency to either run away or fly off in the middle of a hunt.

Where are you now in the story? I'm up to the Nergigante hunt, (in High Rank) if you've reached that. You probably know this by now but flash pods are a great way to get flying monsters onto the ground for some easy bashing. The fact that the monsters try to get away makes sense and, honestly, it's usually a good time for you to sharpen your weapons (if they need it), heal back up, take a breather, etc. You can also go back to camp and restock, if necessary. When you're in combat you can't fast travel back to camp unless you have a Farcaster in your pouch (and you should always have one of those!). As for weapons, I've been using Long Swords and I have a hefty collection of different ones, each with different elements/effects.
This game is so great... I can't believe this is the only topic about it on here, and that no-one has joined the discussion up to this point! |

I'm not sure if I have a farcaster I have some exciteshrooms and I think I have the smokenut needed to craft one I'll have to double check that I have both of those ingredients next time I play the game. My favourite weapon of choice is hammers it was swords at first but then I switched to hammers and never looked back. What creature for you has been the most challenging for me it was the anjanath followed by the paolumu and what is your Hunter rank I'm rank 9 I'm hoping it won't be too long before I get to rank 11 as I really want to get the aloy armour set, I missed out on the armour for the palico as I wasn't able to rank up enough in time to get that armour I like them as they are so I wouldn't want to change their appearance too drastically. One thing that annoys me the most is when I'm fighting a creature by myself and it just runs off in the middle of a fight so annoying IKR I too thought there would be more discussion about this game. For me Anjanath was the first monster I got stuck on. I think that's the case for everyone because he really punishes you if you can't avoid his attacks. Then Odogaron, just because he can make you bleed and that can ruin your day quick if you can't get somewhere safe to crouch in order to stop the bleeding. I learned his patterns fairly quick, though. After that it was Diablos--wait until you face him! Diablos was the first monster I needed help from someone else to beat.
Farcasters are great because it's a safe way out of a fight if you really are desperate. That's why I'm surprised you hate the monsters running away from the fight. I get that it's annoying when you're doing well but, sometimes, it happens right when you could use the break. The missions are generously timed so there's usually not a rush. In fact I've learned that the key to Monster Hunter is patience. Instead of always going for that next hit dodge out of the way if necessary. Getting one good hit and then getting out of the way is ofter better than getting 2 hits but then getting hit, yourself. Once you learn their patterns you start getting hit less and landing more good hits on them. I don't know what number rank I am but I'm in the High Rank missions now, but still doing the story. You get into High Rank after you fight Zora Magdaros (that mountain of a monster) for a 2nd time. In High Rank the monsters you've fought before are tougher and have some different patterns in behavior... and you face a bunch of new monsters. It's a shame you're on PS4 and I'm on the Xbox One X, we could have teamed up! |

Yeah, that was Diablos alright! Loud noise can bring him up through the sand at that location. Fighting him in his lair down there is a lot tougher than fighting him elsewhere because he burrows into the sand and comes up from beneath you a lot. It's hard to avoid. When you do face him for real it's better if you can get him out of there and somewhere where the ground is more solid. I failed the first time because the whole fight was in his lair. The 2nd time, with a friend, we came upon him in a different location and his movements were easier to counter because he burrowed less often. Have fun!

Have you got any recommendations for useful weapons/armour and strategies to use against Diablos? I'm definitely going to team up against Diablos online this is one creature I'm not going to try and take down by myself, I must remember to get some earplugs being temporarily unable to move because of a creatures roar is irritating, I keep forgetting to get the earplugs. |

Diablos doesn't inflict any status effects on you so focus strictly on sheer armor value. Use your highest armor-value set, and I'd upgrade it some too as I'm guessing you have armor spheres to use. When he burrows underground sheath your weapon and run... you'll be faster that way. Also, if you have screamer pods you can use them to trap him (kind of). As soon as he starts to burrow fire one at him. This stops him burrowing and he's temporarily trapped there. You can get some solid hits in after that. Of course you kind of have to be ready to fire so that means preparing for it. He burrows so much though, whenever he can, that you'll have a lot of chances at it.
I also used poison smoke bombs on him. That's easy damage. MAIN THING THOUGH: be very patient. You'll find you're spending a lot of time dodging him and not hitting him... but the hits add up over time. If you have other players helping everything is easier because he can only focus on one person at a time. |

Speaking of Anjanath I did the proving quest earlier to get the Aloy armour the first Anjanath I came up against didn't put up much of a fight I was expecting more of a challenge from this particular Anjanath, the second one put up more of a fight than the first one. The stuff needed to craft the Aloy armour is extensive 4 Nora brave trophies, 14 Anjanath pelts, 6 Anjanath nose bones and 1 Anjanath gem and thirty thousand zenny this will take quite a while to get all that stuff needed to craft the Aloy armour. |
