Eidos owned (and I think Square still owns) the Core Design name so there's no reason to think they wouldn't have owned the logo, as well, which makes copyright issues quite unlikely. I'd imagine that someone at Crystal did that because they were still feeling a little insecure about their claim on the franchise (their first TR game had just come out a year prior and Core had only just tried to develop a TR anniversary game of their own)... Then again, copyright law can be quite convoluted so maybe I'm wrong.

It doesn't really matter when the game starts with "Tomb Raider Anniversary Copyright Core Design ltd"

I believe that's nothing to do with Eidos/Square since Core Design was it's own studio, that's all on them and they owned the trademark. However, the "Core Design UK" trademark is now owned by someone else and is not used for Computer Software anymore but clothing/accessories. They did right to block it out as they wouldn't have been able to request permission to use the logo or name in the first place. Regards. |

Throwing shades is more likely. After all, given how both Crystal and Eidos are used to it, this wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. They've always felt the need to push their own questionable agenda to make the fandom believe that Core was trash and they are the supreme "saviors" of Tomb Raider. This was simply one of the multiple ways to express their lack of respect.

Totally agree and because of this, I'd actually more look forward to a "re-imagining" of TR2 or TR3 by them than the sequel to ROTTR. Which is a huge shame of course but I can't help feeling this way.
