Tomb Raider on 4K Mac (Playing in 2048x1152)
Hey,
Recently bought an 4k iMac, and figured it might be apt to show you guys how the game runs on an Apple, as it seems quite underrepresented as a platform for TR. iMac Specs: iMac Retina 4k, 21.5", Late 2015 Model (still the most up to date) 3.1Ghz i5 8gb 1867Mhz DDR3 Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536mb Game Specs: 2048x1152 60hz refresh rate V Sync - Triple Buffer Quality - Custom Motion Blur - On Screen Effects - On Texture Quality - Ultra Texture Filter - Ans 16x AA - FXAA Shadows and Resolution - Normal Level of Detail - High Reflections - High Depth of Field - Normal SSAO - Normal Post Processing and High Precision - On. Click Here For Screenshots The game runs predominantly silky smooth, worse in the prologue, but once you exit the coastal area, the game runs easily as well as on the console. Beautiful really, actually quite impressed considering the Intel Iris is hardly a decent spec. Any thoughts? |

Doesn't the Mac version have TressFX?

No, something to do with AMD.

Good performance for a Mac and Intel IGP... otherwise horrible. I bought my PC back in 2010 with HD6870 and Phenom II x4 965 and i was able to play on max settings/1080p except TressFX and AA. Buying something 5 years later for 5x price and you have lower performance..... Again, good for a PC with IGP, but otherwise...

I'll give increasing the settings a go, the images are compressed by Imgur, but I don't know any alternatives! The game is razor sharp, I'm seriously impressed actually.

I suppose it's just how the game is optimised for the platform. There's no option of running the game anything beyond "high" unfortunately. I'm curious as to what settings on a much older game like Underworld will bring.

Is 4K resolution on a Mac different from 4K resolution on a PC?
I'm gonna be getting a 4K monitor this fall to play TR2013 & Rise on my new PC, and its resolution is 3840 x 2160...I always assumed 4k was 4k, regardless of the platform... |

3840 x 2160 is 4k, why would it be different?

That's what I'm asking...the OP lists the game as playing at 2048x1152 on a 4k iMac...
I know you can scale down to lower resolutions (at a severe hit in picture quality), but I'm wondering if 2048x1152 is Apple's version of "4k" resolution. Last edited by Heidi_w_; 23-02-17 at 00:08. |
