Just a bit of tweaking to the PS3 control scheme:

[L2]: Sprint [R2]: Graple/hook/magnetic graple
[L1]: Draw guns/aim (depending if it is on manual or auto aim mode) [R1]: Shoot

Up arrow: medipack
Left arrow: pls/flashlight/flare (depending which one you have at that moment)
Right arrow: reload
Down arrow: change weapon

Left analog stick: Move
L3: Reset camera
Right analog stick: Move camera
R3: over the shoulder aim

Triangle: Action, legs: kicks
Square: Action, hands: punches, grab (can be either toggled as automatic hold or manual hold ala AoD), pulling/pushing etc.
Circle: Duck/crawl/roll
X: Jump

Select: PDA (inventory)/map (the latter most likely considering the era of the game)
Start: In game menu (if with pda)/Inventory with all the options (if with map)

Way more options and you can easily still hold on to a ledge, aim and shoot without any trouble even with the grab button being there. There should also be a lot more combination moves such as sprint jump, sprint roll (that either ends up on a duck or continues as running/sprinting.

Oh, please do include the control overlay the next time you release a game. I don't like to look up the manual each time I start a new game because the controls are usually displayed in the game. Made it frustrating to learn them that way

The 360 controls were perfect for me.

I have PS3 too, so mine will be based off that as well:
  • (X) Action (manual grab, pick up/use object)
  • (Square) Jump (hold for longer jump)
  • (Triangle) Draw Weapons (just holds in hands, not above head/shoulders or holds out in front of herself aiming at nothing looking like a retard. Does not go into strafe mode. Just plain and simple.. hold in her hands like she doesn't even have them, but when enemy comes she will auto aim at them, like the classics.)
  • (O) Grapple/Rope
  • (^) Health pack
  • (<) Cycle weapons left
  • (>) Cycle weapons right
  • (v) Draw Flare/torch
  • (L2) Sprint (push in trigger harder for faster sprint, softer for brisk jog).
  • (R2) Crawl, roll, slide on back if sprinting. Hold and press Melee to do kicks from below.
  • (L1) AOD style walk (toggle on or off by pressing or hold to keep walking and to sidestep)
  • (R1) Shoot when weapons are drawn, Melee when not (Punching/standard kicks).
  • (L3) Bring up Compass
  • (R3) Centre camera

ok, I've added swimming and vehicle controls. Please add what configuration you'd like to see for each of these.

Press X to not die.

That's all the modern gamer needs.
