Hiya everyone
I'm in the process of repairing an old Socket 7 (AMD K6-450) system for a friend of mine. Socket 7 heat-sinks and fans dont seem to be made anymore . Does anyone know if a socket A heat-sink and fan will fit? Cheers TheStig (Dave) [ 31. August 2005, 13:18: Message edited by: TheStig ] |

Thanks Apofiss , I'm gonna have a go with a Socket A heat-sink and fan (mounts seem virtually identical).

Hi Apofiss, sorted it doing a retro fit of a socket A fan from an Athlon 3400. Looks massive compared to the tiny heat-sink and fan that was on before , but at least I'll know it wont overheat anymore.

Hi TheStig BTW I hope you didn't forget to apply thermal compound.

Hiya Apofiss
Yes I did put some thermal compound on, though I somehow managed to not put enough compound on when last time I rebuilt my own desktop last year. This in turn lead to a rather toasty processor . I hate fitting heatsinks though...one slip with a screw driver and you can wave good-bye to your mainboard . That said all this system rebuilding has got me a ready for a new hardware purchase TheStig(Dave) [ 12. September 2005, 11:23: Message edited by: TheStig ] |
