Both of which are a perspective thing. Not all of TR3 is affected by the darkness + you have flares, and the save crystals make for an extra challenge. I've personally never completed TR3 or even touched Antarctica on PS but I still prefer it for the extra graphical enhancements. Playing on PS2 with texture smoothing enabled it is gorgeous.

I prefer TR3 over all classics, simply because of the difficulty.
I can remember playing the same parts of the game over and over again, just to find the next blue crystal. And when I found one, it fell special! (I probably felt more frustrated back then xD) Nowadays games autosave around every corner, after every pickup... I don't want to finish games too quickly. In the latest TR games, I catch myself looking around for too long in areas, before proceeding the storyline. Just because I don't want it to be over too fast. :/ |

Maybe an umpopular opinion but I still think TR3 is as inovative as TR2. The power to crawl or sprint will be so important for the future of the series tbh.
However it's still kinda stale because the gameplay is still around levers, keys and pushable blocks. Nothing wrong about it I love it but TR4 was more imaginative with game design imo. |

No way this is the worst game in the trilogy. TR3 is actually the best, IMO. It has an awesome story, great new features and it's just a very good game, it's also one of the best games in the franchise. The difficulty might be too hard, but the game is amazing! Definitely better than TR1 (sorry!)

Is TR3 the worst game in the series? To me, it isn't, even though it is quite low on my ranking.
Is it the worst game within the original trilogy? To me, it is Edit: Maybe I should give some reasons. First, while I appreciate its focus on difficulty, it gets out of proportion when you consider that the levels of the game are mazes instead of coherent structures, unlike the levels of the two previous games. Plus, the non-canonical order of levels (which can stab you in the back if you don't know what happens during Nevada), the lighting, the lack of detail within the story, the excessive amount of weapons and, therefore, ammo, and the constant need of keeping the player on edge... All of that just makes the whole gameplay really exasperating for someone like me, who can have an enjoyable and relaxing adventure with good action on any of the other TR games except this one. If we're only including the first three games, then TR3 is the worst (still not a bad game by any means). I think it just has many dull levels/sections that are a chore to play through (most of Nevada and pretty much all of London). I haven't had any problems with the difficulty since I mainly played the pc versions of the games.
If we're including all of classics then Chronicles is infinitely worse though. |
