Default The Inconsistent Graphics

One thing that I notice about this game is how inconsistent the graphics are. Curious to get some opinions on this. This is of the standard PS4 version, btw.

A lot of the time it can look great:

Most of the time, though, the game has very very bad shimmering:

Even with the shimmering, it can still look great, but it detracts badly:

Sometimes the graphics are just flat out crap in itself:

As much as I know cutscene and gameplay character models will look different, if the console has the power to produce, this, surely it has enough power to fix the above problems.

All I'm saying is, I wouldn't have minded some of the graphical features to be scaled back a bit to allow for better picture quality, almost like the X360 version, and potentially it might have been a way to fix the input lag Nixxes chose to put back in Patch 1.6 and never fix again. Thoughts?

I agree that in certain spots of the game the graphics look quite downgraded, but I put that down to the size of the hubs. If Reboot 3 is bigger I expect even more of a graphical downgrade. Combine that with the fact CD are being done over for copyright for the MOVA tech, and the cutscenes won't look as good either. :/

I see what you're saying. As long as the picture is clean, graphics consistent and there's no input delay, it's cool. MOVA isn't necessary for beautiful facial animations - look at naughty Dog and Ninja Theory.

Let's not forget that this game is cross-gen.
More open areas = worse graphics.

I think they said the next game was gonna be denser but not bigger.

It's not only that the later hubs are bigger than Syria, but there's also a lot of grass, especially in your screenshots. This stuff is pretty demanding and more grass means that other effects have to be downgraded in order to keep a consistent framerate.

PC version looks more consistent on max settings (ofc). But you can still see the huge performance differences. The first linear parts of the game are running much better. So yeah, you can choose. "Bad" graphics in every part of the game or let developers to make linear parts look better.

Characters in cutscenes are looking much better in every modern game, it's much easier to render that alone.

The grass wasn't even interactive.

It doesn't have to. But grass in general is tricky to render since it's a lot of small objects (if it's not cheap 2D sprites), that's why only a handful of 7th gen games have realistic looking meadows.
