Your Sims 3 disc works with both because EA spent extra money (not a lot; as ports go, this is a very simple one) to make it work on both. I have not heard any rumor whatsoever that Square Enix was doing the same. If they did, it would be the first time ever for a Tomb Raider game.

Concerning the topic: What's the problem with downloading it for Bootcamp? That's how I play all my games. If you've bought either of the latest OS updates, then you are already familiar with large software being delivered via downloads, aren't you?

In the worst case scenario, the disc would merely be a 'gateway' to something like Steam where you would eventually have to download the game (hence an internet connection will be required).

But let's hope that WON'T be the case, and the game data will actually be on the disc, not hovering somewhere over in the USA.
QFT again. Steam account required for the game is a dealbreaker. No purchase.

If I put that much money into buying a game, I will be able to install directly from disc, hassle free and without being tied in any way to a Steam account or similar services requiring registration.

If there's any official info about this, it's high time they came out with it. It's the greatest shame already that I still don't know if this will be the first TR game in fifteen years that I won't play.

I could understand why they'd have this game mostly available via digital retailers instead of physical. It's really not worth the bother especially since PC gaming is really not that marketable as it used to be for most developers, the console counterparts earn more for the developers/publishers and I wouldn't mind there being a limited amount of physical copies because it's not as if the game is going to sell a huge amount compared to the console platforms anyway.

Also, I think the same applies to MAC users. Do many gamers even use a mac? I think it's quite a minority and it really isn't worth the effort if they're not going to get much out of it.

Has the question of the actual copy protection ever been answered officially?

You are not wrong. USA will be getting the download version, but UK will get the DVD. Those of us in the USA who want the DVD will need to buy it from the UK. I'll be buying through UK Amazon. The downside is you will not get the game on March 5.

If you go to the TR website and sign in to the USA version, it will give you the options available in the USA---DVD is not one of them.

Example, by clicking on the PC Amazon option at TombRaider.com, you are taken to this link:
