Default venting thread

by the timed ledge in the great pyramid. you know which one I'm talking about.

I beat it once or twice before, but have tried another run through on this and it might be my last. the janky controls , the messed up camera angle, the save point that makes you fight those 2 flying things before you make another go at it every time.

Well, the point of an action/adventure platformer is to have difficult platforming.

That part was particularly difficult for me when I was younger because I was still not used to controling the camera with the mouse. Every platform of that damned ascension had the same problem for me: those flying mutants always blew me off to the pit. Sometimes Lara threw herself if I made her recover from the impact of a firebolt

These were the only issues I had tbh. Or she'd throw herself really slowly then grab the ledge just to get blasted again
I found the actual platforming side of it to be quite fun

Try the version remade by EssGee's Beyond the Scion
Unbelievably difficult if you hadn't played TR in a long time (like I had when I first played it)

Are you talking about the ascent up the main central shaft?

Ya I remember really struggling with that on my first playthrough. It's like one of the few truly hard parts of Anniversary. It gets easier with practice though once you know what to do.

Ha, I just replayed Anniversary a few months ago and that section is full of BS. Though I honestly had an easier time of it this time around than my first playthrough back when the game came out. I think it only took me a few tries... But yeah... having to respawn with those stupid mutants every time was a pain in the ass, I agree. If it weren't for that it wouldn't have been so annoying haha.

But really that's the only part of the game that really irked me. The rest is really quite fun. I know CD are given a hard time for their platforming but I really liked it in the Legend and Anni engine. It's good for a fun time. It's not as challenging as classic TR but that's okay. They felt like much lighter versions of their predecessors anyhow in pretty much every way possible. It still kept some of the TR elements though. Like Boss fights that required some strategy for instance. Kinda wish we'd get back to that again one of these days. The new reboot games are even easier which is disheartening.

Why do people bitch about it so much? It's not hard. All you do is point the analogue stick opposite the wall, to where you are to jump off. If you're using a keyboard and mouse then you're asking for the frustration because the game is (rightly) not designed for it.

I don't have any issues with that part using keyboard+mouse and I'm more of a controller player
