Lightbulb Uzi glitch

Hello everyone,

I've always been a no-scratch fanatic, playing every Tomb Raider game exactly like that. Now those who have played TR Lost Artifact before probably know that jumping for the uzis sacrifices around 90% of Lara's health. Not really the thing you like to see during a no-scratch playthrough..

I did however come across an old thread made by EscondeR which references to something called 'the water jump' (you can find this thread here: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=142223)

I couldn't find anything more related to this bug, no youtube videos or instructions on how to reproduce it. All I know is that it's a corner bug which should result in no health loss at all while getting the uzis. With many of our bug specialists gone (rip rr_carroll) I'm sitting here finger crossed that another fellow raider can help me out here

EDIT: I must have accidentally skipped over a page of the thread I mentioned above, there is a video of the glitch after all. For those who might come across this thread in the future or those who just want to see how it is done, you can watch the video below.

I'd never heard of this bug myself although I'm sure I accidentally triggered it in one run through TLA.

I did a "no-scratch" or as I prefer to call it a minimal damage/all items/secrets run through TR3 and TLA and never came across that thread or reference to the water jump for avoiding the damage. I just jumped from the bridge as I normally do and accepted the health loss as unavoidable.

But it seems it is avoidable so I'd be interested to hear about that water jump technique too. Likewise I can not find any description of the method let alone precise details anywhere.

I believe that it is possible to be submerged in the water and clip into the corner of the land, which should cause Lara to land on top where the uzis are. I've seen this "underwater corner bug" exploited especially in TR1. It could be a lot more tricky since the current is carrying you away. I'll have to try and mess around with this later.

The underwater corner bug is well known and I've used it myself many times to explore parts of Venice in TR2 you can not otherwise access and with TR3 the water filled canyon in Nevada where you you can shortcut up to the entrance area of the cave. If that had been the technique it would be very difficult to do because of the current.

But as Maverin's found YT clip shows the technique is actually a variation on the bridge jump where you seem to land slightly short of the dry land point you usually are trying to hit (which causes damage). In this case you must be landing onto the narrow sloped area just underwater - you can find places like that elsewhere in this level too.

It looks as if when you do that and press jump (+ forward) continuously, maybe subtly slightly tweaking LC's rotational angle as well, she will edge closer towards solid ground with each jump and eventually adding tumble gets you onto dry land.

Yes, it looks like you have to time the roll precisely as she is about to land on the flat surface in order to not fall back into the water.

Hi guys.

Any luck reproducing this glitch? I've tried and failed horrendously
I think I'm missing a step that the video doesn't really show

Had a quick go on this and it looks like it must be a VERY precise landing area.

I've matched LC's start position for the jump as closely as possible from the YT video and literally the smallest rotation left and she lands on solid ground (with damage) and a similarly small rotation right and she goes straight into the water.

One thing I did notice is that in the video halfway through the jump her arms stretch up indicating that X (Grab) is being held at that point. I still couldn't replicate the same result but what I did find is that doing that I could do the conventional landing, with damage, far more consistently.

Not much help as regards getting the no damage landing correct but I thought it might be of interest to others finding this thread.

Interesting, lost count how many time I played, don't recall any glitch.

Either its dying on the rocks or going into the water.

You do not die if you're on full health and that means you have to complete the rest of the level with the damage.

On a 'no scratch' run it is irrelevant if it is unavoidable ie. you still have to complete the rest of the level without damage so how much health you have does not matter. It is just lucky that is possible and there is no other place with unavoidable damage or you would need to use a health pack.

The trick to getting that jump to work must be the landing point. As said there are several other places in this area where LC can stand on an underwater slope and jump straight up but not forward.

My guess is that what you're trying to do is land at the transition point between such a slope and the dry land, continuously pressing jump or possibly jump and forward. This maybe related to the slope bug which allows you grab and pull up to the temple the other side of the river at the start of Madubu Gorge and similarly can be used in TR2's The Deck.

In this case because there is nothing to grab she will jump straight up landing back on the same transition point again and again, causing that flicker effect. But she must rotate slightly (possibly manually induced) so eventually when you use tumble all of her pixels come down on the solid ground side of that transition point.
