Default TRII Gold error

Hi there!
I just played through the first level of TR2 Gold only to get presented with an error when you are supposed to jump from the first to the second level.
The statistics appear onscreen just fine but when I press Enter to proceed I get this:

I'm running this game on Windows XP, installed it using an official game CD.

Btw, weren't these levels available for download?
A legal download I mean?
If so then perhaps someone could point me in that direction and I could try that tomb2.exe?

Or is there a patch (fixed tomb2.exe) or something?

The original TR2 game runs fine.
Installed the same way as these Gold levels.

Any ideas?

Try re-installing the game to see if that fixes the error you are getting.

I think you need to download and run the multipatch to update the TR2 .exe and get it working again. That's what's said in the Common Problems section at the very bottom of this TRHub page...

Download the Tomb Raider Series XP/Vista Multipatch (Download - Freeware) and update TRII.

boat.TR2? None of the Gold levels is called that.

Anyway, the full version of the Gold level can be downloaded from here, so you could try that and see if it works.

Similar posts were made years ago, though I remember them as being for TR2. I believe you'll be OK if you wait about 30 seconds before you try to go to the next level.

"boat.TR2" is the name of the data file for the Venice level in the regular TR2 game ("venice.TR2" is for Bartoli's Hideout).

I play Golden Mask using the second disk from the Tomb Raider II Gold set on WinXP, so I know it's possible. But I don't recall what I did to overcome this.

^
I'm also using that disk.
No matter what I try it keeps asking for a new tomb2.exe.
Which is weird in itself if you ask me because the exe for TR2 Gold is called tr2gold.exe.

I seem to remember having had this issue before but it might as well have been with somethign else.
So I'm not even sure.

TRupdate did not work.
There's no patch for TR2 Gold in it.

I'll try this instead.
Thanks.

Okay, tried to install the downloadable version where I always install games: in the "D://Games" folder. Setup crashed and the game did not install.
So I tried to install using the default path that the setup indicates: the game got installed just fine.
So I copied my savegames into the newly installed TR2 Gold folder.
The jump to the next level worked like a charm so my Lara has finally reached that level.

Now get this:
I copied the savegames from the newly installed game, including the one I made at the beginning of the second level, back to the original installation and ran the game using the TR2 Gold CD and this original installation.
Loaded the new savegame and voila! It works!
So, I'm a bit confused right now.

But oh well, at least I can continue playing the game!!!!

Thanks for all the help people!

This is correct.

For TR2 and TR2gold on winXP and win7, you do have to wait on the end stastistics screen for around 30 seconds, till the next level is uploaded, then press enter to continue to the next level.

Never had to do that with TRII which I finished replaying a couple of weeks ago.
But I'll keep it in mind when I get to the leveljump to the next level.

So glad you can play on, I enjoyed the Golden Mask levels. I like mysteries, but I also like solving them, damn.

Edit: Here's an old post about boat.TR2.
