ok:
China Box Office: By 2:00 pm, Tomb Raider has earned $4.52M. It could make $9M on opening day & $27-30M on 3-day debut. US Box Office: ‘Tomb Raider’ Rings Up $2.1M On Thursday – Box Office n regards to comps, Tomb Raider beat Maze Runner: The Death Cure ($1.5m Thurs, $24.5m FSS) and The Huntsman: Winter’s War ($1m Thurs, $19.4m FSS) and was just under The Divergent Series: Allegiant ($2.3m Thurs, $29m FSS). Sadly, I think we can forget about the sequel. With these numbers maybe 60M in USA and 200M WW Last edited by PinkyPromise; 16-03-18 at 15:20. |

EDIT: Ok, got it. It made 2.1 M on Thursday, so judging by the Divergent data it should make near 29 M for the weekend? Last edited by .:Tirivol:.; 16-03-18 at 15:22. |

Allegiant? Wasn't that the absolute floptastic one that killed the series even despite having plans for part 2 off the bat
Oh no Well, at least we got one GOOD movie and can look forward to fantastic games in the future. |

Ok so here's the break down:
Tomb Raider costed $94 Million to make and a good bet is that if we want a guaranteed sequel this film needs to bring in $300 Million. Now it'll probably need to make less for the film to be profitable with tax incentives and if they didn't spend too much on marketing but split between MGM, Crystal Dynamics, GKFilms and Warner Bros 3 studios and a distributor need to get a cut of the profit and it needs to be good enough that they want a round two. So how is the film performing as of Today the 16th of March 2018, the day it opens wide in USA? Tomb Raider opened a week early in India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea and Taiwan and as of the first week (14th March 2018) it pulled in $17.7 Million from those countries. SOURCE Thursday night previews in the United States, Tomb Raider pulled in $2.1 Million. SOURCE In China, Tomb Raider has pulled in $11.7 Million on Friday finishing at first place which is pretty impressive. SOURCE Quote:

I do not understand how it is doing such bad numbers. TR is so famous. It must be the horrible marketing. The first of Divergent made 50 opening. This is so disappointing. I see a sequel impossible. |

Well, the Divergent Series was already going down and I think the third movie box office sank it at least. I don't think it's a bad result tho...

So what would the world wide box office as of right now be around then?
Yes. Marketing for this movie was disgusting. Yes they had posters on buses and stuff, but that's after a slew of corny adverts and such a bad first trailer that the second (decent) trailer barely got any views in comparison. The lucozade adverts made the film look corny and ridiculous (despite it being a light hearted joke) the first trailer used a collection of possibly the ABSOLUTE WORST shots of the whole film with corny one liners and absolutely dreadful, boring music that in no way represents the tone of the movie. Combine that with the abhorrent photoshopped first poster which smashes greens and reds together with Lara looking like a wax work model with photoshopped definition on her body and a weird neck and NO one takes this film seriously. Such a shame. After watching the movie I could already slew a trailer together 10 million times better. Last edited by James_Rutland; 16-03-18 at 15:30. |
