Considering the GOG and Steam versions come bundled with DOSBox, that makes perfect sense.

I prefer Connectix VGS with original PSX version.

I don't think I've heard of it before. Judging by the descriptions online it seems to be the best solution for PS1 games, actually. Do the games look better on it than they do on ePSXe or PsxFin?

You just download it and put in the game's main folder. Eventually you edit *.ini file. How more simple can that be?

Just as is, without filtering, plugins and bios zoo, bugs etc.

If we're talking PSX version, that's easy: I always play it on a ps1 connected to a CRT. Why would you use anything else?

Getting back on topic, I tried TombATI again last night with Antimicro to get the controller working. Here are my thoughts.

DOSBox - Comes pre-installed with digital downloads of TR1 and with the combination of nglide, it works pretty well in my case. However, the keymapper is quite time consuming to set up. Also, it can only pillarbox the image with widescreen resolutions. The image can also look washed out, even with the gamma setting at the lowest.

TombATI - Due to running in native Windows environment, it doesn't need to switch windows between FMV's and gameplay. As it supports widescreen without pillarboxing, it does look better. The contrast is a little high but that may be the game itself. With the option for full soundtrack, texture packs and high quality FMV's, it is the best solution for running TR1 on modern PC's.

I still use DOSBox as I am not keen on the idea of having two installs of the same game on the same PC (although you do need a legit copy of the game to use TOMBATI anyway so maybe that's better).

Anyway, that's what I think about both.
