I have mixed feelings.
Isn't it a MUST for Lara to face mythical creatures on the island, thats how she realizes her father wasn't talking fairy tale stories?
I would be very disappointed if there is more scavengers and no mythical creatures, I don't know though...

Roar has talked about being inspired by Indiana Jones as well, making it a true adventure. He was inspired by the Reboot for how they've handled Lara's characterization. I think he may try to blend in a few lighter moments and I doubt he'd do away with the mythical altogether.

I was looking at the Warner Bros event film dates and I really think this could release December 25th 2018, it's only substantial competition on that date is the Mary Poppins sequel, that will be a huge success regardless but Tomb Raider offers something vastly different for the audience and appeals to the non-musical going crowd.

^Man, that's going to be quite a long wait if you're right.

Well keep in mind that they still haven't narrowed released a lot of their 2018 dates but their 2017 window is quite full and there's a lot of competition for a new franchise to face, it's going to want to drop in a date with less competition and with a film that it can play as an alternative to. So whilst Mary Poppins will most likely make $1billion from families Tomb Raider opening as an alternative can dominate the teen/adult market and with the right budget return enough profit.

I am glad Warner Bros is behind the distribution in this because atleast it means marketing will be great. They know how to sell a film to an audience.

Lowering the budget is something I really hope they do on this movie just to allow more creative control for Roar and more intimacy in the scenes, Solomon Kane and Into the Woods were made on a $40,000,000 budget and they made the most with what money it had, I think this film could do the same and return massive amounts in return.

I do know about you guys but I am starving for the next bit of casting news, I hope we get our villan next.

Me too. I'm wondering who'll be playing Mathias and Himiko. And wondering if Jonah would even be in the movie.

I wonder how much of the plot would be different from the game, hopefully it will not be a live-action carbon copy!

The game didn't have a huge cast (well, speaking parts anyway) so I wouldn't see a problem with including the Endurance crew.

Really liking the suggestion of Graham McTavish for Grim -- that's perfect!

Indeed. Not sure if they'll keep the original crew members or add new/different ones with different names.

Maybe they might even bring Stephanie back. Who nows.

I can see them taking out the Whitman subplot he was kind of pointless, they could just be on an excursion instead. I'd say if they wanted to keep the main themes of the game they'd need to keep Jonah, Sam and Roth. Reyes has a storyline that is sort of self contained and quite nice so I wouldn't mind her character left in either way it's a very racially diverse group as well which is a bonus for a Hollywood film. If they sort of make it like the group getting hacked off in The Descent that would be a major bonus.

I do want them to focus some more on the crew and more on the villain, if possible they should introduce Trinity and Ana just to open it up for the sequel. I think a prologue scene of Richard's situation from the games could open it up nicely and be explored more in the second film. Adding all this could make the movie too jumbled though and it's already hard streamlining 15 hours into 110 minutes.
