Do you think Sam is capable of being more than a 'damsel'?

I'd personally like to see Square Enix hand the series to a new team after a 3rd reboot so that CrystalD can focus on LOK games. With that I'd really like a return to more classic TR approach. I dig the stylized cartoon version of Lara Croft before she got all Legend or 2013 reboot on us.

Let a new talent reboot / revive series.

She stabbed a shark and defended herself against an attacker with cupcakes, so I think so. She just needs more training.

Wait what. Was this in the comics or something.

Sam is a plodding plot point that needs cleaning up (killing off). She's an excuse of a story and has been written piss-poorly since the very beginning. Merely brought on to manifest RP's fantasies about Lara being a lesbian. Her role after Reboot would have been made grandly more poignant to Lara's character arc if she'd been forced to kill her to release the hold over the island. Instead, she's been embarrassingly written as a weak-willed damsel character who serves only to clog up space where actual good writing could be put in it's place.

The cupcake thing may have been all Sam, but the shark thing was under Himiko's influence. The comics have been building up Himiko's influence since the first arc. Even in the novel there were hints of it. I don't see Sam being capable enough as a sidekick. And if they made her capable enough to follow Lara, it would undermine Lara as the Tomb Raider. It's not TR+1. I don't mind Sam as a character, but it's time to stop revolving the story around her.

But the shark thing was so cool! Don't take that away from her! I never really said that Sam should be a sidekick in Lara's adventures, I don't even want that. I was just trying to say that she was more capable than being only a damsel. Sorry, I wasn't really paying attention to the conversation beforehand and just saw "do you think Sam could be more than a damsel".

This. No need for them to hearken back to anything.

I can picture some sweet open world environments like Horizon Zero Dawn, but instead of a horse for Lara to travel on, give her her classic motorcycle
