Default PC Optimization - Rise Of The Tomb Raider versus Tomb Raider 2013

After playing Rise Of The Tomb Raider over and over again, I decided to go back to Tomb Raider 2013 for a change.

I am using a laptop running on Nvidia 960M.

Tomb Raider 2013 easily runs on Ultimate except for that heavily Nvidia unfriendly Tress FX, which I disable. Except for that system resource heavy SSAA Antialias (and Tress FX), my GPU can pretty much handle everything on Tomb Raider 13.

Anyway, if you are running 1080p on a 15.6 inch laptop, you may want to disable anti-alias completely. Gives you extra fps and the jaggies aren't that noticeable. And no amount of good anti-alias will make the graphics quality sharper than having antialias disabled.

Currently, my laptop has 49 fps on average for Tomb Raider 2013 (using the in game benchmark tool) but the game feels smooth enough, feeling like 60fps-ish on a lot of instances.

____________

Rise of The Tomb Raider is that game where I am thinking as to what the developers exactly did to make this game so resource intensive. It's gorgeous, yes. But so is Tomb Raider 2013, even by 2017 standards.

Setting aside the 3 year difference between the two games (of course, Tomb Raider 2013 is expected to run faster), I was thinking of the things I can disable on Rise Of The Tomb Raider and keep the visual fidelity.

Guys, I wanna know what settings do you keep

Currently, I have these disabled

1. Antialias
2. Motion Blur
3. Vignette Blur

I think SHADOWS is a heavy resource hog, but the game is too dependent on it to look great.

This made me think...

When Tomb Raider 2013 came out, were a lot of fans complaining that they're getting fps drops on the beach level, much like we're seeing fps drop on Soviet Installation?

How long did I take before a good optimization patch came out?

About your question concerning the settings: I'm rather sure there was a thread about this, when ROTR first came out on PC. People posted their hardware and settings along with framerates. At least I think there was... Maybe someone has still a link? I couln't find it by browsing / searching

I'm going to specifically address this part of your post and say that the Geothermal Valley is twice as demanding as the Soviet Installation TBH.

I don't have the latest and greatest (i5-4570 and Geforce 960) but ROTR runs and looks like a dream at 1080p at 60 fps on very high settings, too bad the game is garbage.

Its not though, Soviet Installation has huge freezing problems while Geothermal Valley just plays fine (Without lag spikes)

You think so? I have far more problems in GV than I do in SI, tbh.

I don't have any issues whatsoever. ROTTR runs as fluid as melting butter.

Maybe you should downgrade to PS4 Pro?

I'd rather down my own vomit multiple times, tbh.
I have a PS4 Slim, and I don't have issues with Rise on it (anymore) but my PC version struggles in the valley. Nowhere else, just the valley.
