Default Did Lara and Pierre travel through time?

I replayed the Rome section of TRC the other day and for some time now I wonder: When Lara walks through the portal beneath the three serpent heads, does she actually travel through time? I've a few pieces of evidence for this:

- The room behind the portal is far bigger from the inside than the small building she entered.
- There is also this weird coloured glowy stuff when she enters the building.
- There are living lions and gladiators.
- The Colosseum appears to be intact.
- Everything looks pretty new and not as withered as one would expect from such an ancient place.

What do you guys think?

That's a really good interpretation, I like it.

You have some very good points and I like that idea ! It could also explain why Pierre is still alive in TR1 ? He died in the past not in the present ?

I just assumed the Chamber of the Philosopher's Stone was some kind of ancient TARDIS, bigger on the inside with a transdimensional portal activated by the different elemental artifacts.

As for Larson and Pierre, I just assumed Lara lied to Winston about what happened in Rome, and neglected to tell him she met them again during the events of TR1.

Well, we don't see Larson or Pierre die so they could've survived. Larson was just thrown away by the serpent heads and Pierre isn't seen when he falls into the abyss.

I thought it was bigger in the inside just because of the usual weird TR logic, though I find your interpretation quite amazing

Never considered this at the time but it's certainly a good theory.

I also love the theroy! I've always wondered why le Colosseum looked so "new" and why there are gladiators and lions as you said and I have to agree the time travel is a good answer

Okay, this is the new cannon xDDDDD
I've never been bothered about the living lions and gladiators when I played it back in my young ages xD but the last replay I've done, really buged me. Now this is a good theory.

It could also be a paralel dimension...

I wonder how Lara and Pierre returned to the present time, though. After she gets the Philosopher's Stone, it doesn't seem there's an exit at all
