I think the whole thing with Core saying it wasn't based on that might be due to the FMV team and the actual development team being separate. The people saying it wasn't based on that were members of the development team, however, I think the first people to design the manor's exterior were members of the FMV team (correct me if I'm wrong but I do think there were renders of the exterior before the in-game version of the exterior had actually been designed). So it's possible they used Compton Wynyates as reference and the development team never knew about it.

They didn't outsource the FMV's till TR4. Toby was the lead animator and modeller for the TR1 ones, though most of them were pre-packaged models that came with 3Ds Max. Lara's just a mod herself, hence the whole Lara's boobs inflated 150% thing.

^Ah, I see LOL. Even so, I don't think Toby was ever asked about the manor (assuming he was the one who did them, I'm not sure when exactly the first render showing the manor's exterior was released but I do think it was around the time of TR1's release... I may be way off there, though) and whether he used any references for the exterior renders. I think everyone who has been asked about so far has only ever talked about the in-game manor not being directly inspired by a real-world building.

Yeah people do seem to keep talking about the ingame one rather than the FMV model. I still couldn't believe my eyes when I first spotted Compton Wynyates in Keeping Up Appearances. The damn thing was so close I had to report it to the forum.

I know progress is slow but I'm getting there, some refining on the arms, then hands, face, boots, clothes, texturing, rigging, animating Such a long road. I welcome any critiques, really want to make this Lara the best I can ...

We haven't seen her face, my suggestions for inspiration:
Anniversary Lara Renders: I fancy this model, she is perfect. Or you could make the LC games modern Lara: I love these, I know you might not be able to achieve this graphics, but maybe you can make it similar https://postimg.org/image/7n9c68lhd/ Your Lara model looks quite good-ish to me, I can't tell, I'm not experienced, I'm just a fan, very excited with your work I know its your project so you can do whatever, these are just humble suggestions |
