Something like this but less "legend" xD (you have to climb the mountain but the enemies reach by car???)
Looks impressive but this is really not the way I want to play any Lara Croft game...

I'm not asking for that as something to replace the "big TR". More like "port Lara Croft Relic Run" to PC and give HTC Vive support, it would be something like that.

It is possible the classics could be converted to first person for the purposes of VR, but it would be a lot of work and I don't think Square would want to pay for it. If it were kept in third person it would be LESS immersive as it would draw attention to the fact you're floating in the air behind her. And if you rooted the directions in place so the camera didnt move with your head, you'd get sick.
You can do third-person in VR, you just need to let the player's head movement control the third-person camera. That does cause a few problems, though, for example, the camera can't really make quick turns, etc. so it's best to have a straight level layout. I could also imagine that something with fixed camera positions might work so you'd have a fixed camera position in each room but the camera angle would be controlled by your head movements and the game would automatically switch to the next room's camera once Lara enters it.

I have to say that my thoughts on this have changed. I always thought that virtual reality would be a wonderful thing, but since I tried it I find it makes me quite ill. Unless they figure out how to improve it significantly, they need to really minimize all extraneous movement and basically slow everything down a lot. And really, this is not a good thing for gaming right now.

Might be that it just takes some time getting used to though? Perhaps after gradual usage People won't get that motion sickness from using it? I don't know, but at least I hope so. I'm excited for VR, but I admit getting ill from using it is something that worries me.

Wouldn't you wanna fall down the main room in St. Francis Folly in VR?

That really depends on the individual person and the specific game. It's difficult to tell what caused your experience. Perhaps it was a low-quality game whose developers didn't pay enough attention to eliminating motion sickness, perhaps you're simply one of those unfortunate people who are especially prone to VR-induced motion sickness. But the technology is definitely only gonna get better from her on out so you should probably try it again once the next generation of VR headsets comes out.

I never thought of this but how do you play third person games with VR? Feels like all I've seen is first person views in the VR videos. Guess I need to read up and watch more.
