Default Would anyone here join the Army?

Just had a quick though, I wonder if anyone here has ever though about joining the Army, or have served in the Army?

I suppose it boils down to 'Do you love your country enough to fight for it?'

I personally, could not bring myself to join. I don't think I would achieve any sort of satisfaction from doing it. I also believe that any skills I have or will pick up can be utilised elsewhere. On the contrary, If any skills could land me a great job in connection with something like defence (like engineering parts for submarines) ect I probably would consider the possibility, indirectly.
But never would want to be on the front line.

Ok, I would like to hear you thoughts.

I wouldn't. I couldn't handle it honestly. It would just boost my anxiety way up there. I can't handle people yelling at me either.

Is it just Army or the military in general? In South Korea, all males are required to serve for 2 years. I'm not sure if they just put anyone on the front lines. I mean you have the people like the NAVY Seals who captured Bin Laden and they get all the glory. They deserve it, but aren't they professionals?

It would take years of training.

No, I really would be terrible in it. It'd be like a rehash of Private Benjamin.

I wouldn't. But they don't want me either so it's all good.

Personally I wouldn't mind if I had to tbh, but I don't think I'd last long... On second thoughts maybe I would last awhile.

After all I have retained riding my bike in my garden for 2-3 consecutive hours... when I was little (obviously no comparison there...)

I belonged to one of the last replacements in my country that had to go to the army, obliged, for the period of instruction.
I have no interest in returning.

I was in the US Army for about 10 years (4 active, 6 reserve). It was a great experience and helped me gain a good work ethic and I made life-long friends. I have no interest in going back in now, but I'm glad I went.

I'm to old to enlist.

As an extra tidbit of info: My uncle enlisted in the Air Force and made a career out of it... after 20 years of service he was able to retire with full benefits. That's the good side of it. The bad: You are indebted to the military for those 20 years... some peeps just can't do that. I'm not sure if I could but man, 20 years and full retirement... now that IS sweet and nothing to scoff at.
