Between the two? 900p@60, but if you can get that you should be around 45fps at 1080, I'd think.

So far only have up to PS3, and I don't even play demanding games on my PC, only casual ones

This would result in the worst stutter imaginable.

900p@60fps all the way!

But if I get to choose freely: 2160p@60fps in HDR with graphics maxed out.

(I don't get to choose freely though )

Depends on the game and the other settings I'd say. Resolution isn't everything, but the same goes for framerate. I'd choose a setting where the framerate stays constantly above 45fps. That makes it smooth enough for me.

So, If I had to choose, I'd probably go for 900p/60 but I'd play it on my TV and not on my monitor as the distance to the screen helps a lot with low resolutions.

I think a consistent framerate is more important than a fast framerate.

I'd much rather a solid 30 FPS that doesn't deviate, than an advertised 60 FPS that drops often.

Terrible stuttering is not necessarily the result of a variable framerate. Depends on the game, but while I notice drops below 60, I never notice 'stutters' because of that. Bad stuttering is pretty much always the result of some other issue, usually memory I think.

I think 30fps is absolutely fine as long as it is consistent! If I was using a mouse, then yes 30fps would feel a bit sluggish, but for a standard game pad, 30fps feels fine. It's more problematic when the frame-rate drops suddenly, or fluctuates.

So to answer the question, I'd prefer which ever is the most stable experience.
