The problem with this is that the player doesn't get to easily replay the level the same way it was on first playthrough (the exact same enemies, the exact same things happening etc, or perhaps as an alternative the exact same scenarios but with new equipment?).
So in order to experience the levels in their original form again you'll have to start a new game all over again from the very beginning and play your way through the game until you reach the very section you wanted to replay. Or you need to keep a ton of spare savegames around.

For someone like me who have very little interest in warping back to empty hubs after beating the game only to search around for GPS caches in the grass or other stuff then that means that the game has very little replay value.
With other TR games I often find myself replaying individual levels on a regular basis, but so far I've never done that with TR2013 because it is such a hassle digging up a savegame from the section I want to play, putting it into the correct folder etc, if I even have the savegame from the section I want to play at all.
Right. I'm not saying that one style is necessarily better than the others. Clearly, a level-select option is better for you and how you prefer to play.

That isn't the case for everyone, however.

Yes, everyone has different tastes. It doesn't have to be just one solution though. Personally I think TR2013 replayability would have been much better if they had also included a level select feature. Basically that you choose from a list and replay individual levels/chapters/segments (or whatever is the correct term for how TR2013 is organised) exactly how it was on first playthrough. It would be a win-win situation as everyone would get to replay the game the way they wanted.

But, does anything you pick up in the level replay get saved for the post game roam? And do you get to continue the game from the end of that level, or is there a defined stop point. For example, the Mountain Village has several distinct sections. Does it stop after you get the climbing axe? After the bridge collapses?

Yes, I guess these would be somewhat hard to resolve and people will probably have different answers and preferences to how it should be solved.
I don't really have a good answer to that other than that I personally would have wanted a feature that easily allows me to select a certain section of the game and replay it exactly like it was on first playthrough.
If secrets etc found during such 'section replays' should be added to the savegame or if such 'section replays' should allow for using equipment and weapons found later in the game? I guess yes, but I'm not sure.
As for where exactly each section ends and a new one starts that's also difficult given that it doesn't have regular levels.

It would be possible to have Revisit Level and Replay Level. Revisiting mid-way through a current level to go back and explore could be literally that - Lara ditches where she currently is, flies back to the other side of the world and revisits where she was once before to scan for missing artefacts. Replaying would just be for fun, with the current ammo/weapons you now have.

Agent 47,Doomguy,Dante,Drake,Guts and Old Lara told me to tell you you're wrong. not everything has to be a freaking hub world. you can have massive levels like the old Tomb raider games. I had to post up on here again after reading that because that was just crap. Doom was one of the biggest games of the year and it had level select. besides with levels i can go all around the world and not be stuck in one damn place the whole game.

Super-rich young female Aristocrat with back-breaking tits and uncomfortably skimpy outfits parading around killing everything in 3000 year old tombs stacked with ammo, murderous animals and medical supplies. It was great fun though and it's sad to see that it will never be that colorful again. But times have changed and if Tomb Raider didn't, our last game would have been Underworld.
That is perfectly fine with me Underworld was a good game despite what some might say. lol So everything Lara did in the old Games was unrealistic but Turning her into Drake with Wolverines healing factor is much more realistic ? ya right.

Actually the idea of a rich woman training herself and raiding tombs for a hobby is much more believable then a small anorectic girl taking on an army of Undead samurai & a legion of Drunk homeless people with a large bleeding infected hole in her hip.

I think no for me... When reboot came out I was mad I had to reply the whole game just to get to a certain part, but I enjoyed the open-ness and being able to go where ever whenever, but with Rise's chapter replay I was mad you were taken back to the menu after you finished that chapter.....

I think I'd like basically the system The Last of Us has were you can do a new game+ mode but can also choose chapters as well and just continue onto the next without having to go back to the menu and select it.
