Many popular games are also starting to dwell on environmental storytelling, where the actual world helps in selling not just a setting, but also a story. And to be fair, even the reboot Tomb Raider games have also leaned a bit on that. But perhaps they should lean a bit more? Maybe focus less on Lara and more on the mythology and the hidden lore? Hell, it could perhaps help with making the game gain traction on YouTube, which definitely means more exposure and could mean more potential sales. If FNAF, Undertale, and other indie darlings prove anything, is that there is a really big portion of gamers that will buy any game if it has some weird deep hidden lore beneath a seemingly simple story.
