AD starts after the supposed birth of Christ, not after his death. Everything before this birth is BCE.

Yup. Not really all that complex, although I'm sure back then they didn't say "what a wonderful day today in the year 24 BC!" you get what I mean anyways.
Hehe since BC is Before Christ, then that wouldn't make sense anyways =/

You can blame the Catholic church and the Roman Empire for the whole BC/AD thing.

we can also blame (scientists?) for trying to change it to BCE (before common era) and CE (common era).

its just too confusing now, considering some ppl mix up the two types of years, and say BC and CE; or BCE and AD, etc.

Later, but earlier than now, Cenozoic Era We can get more specific with Epochs too
