TRIII is my favourite out of all of the classic TR's. It has variety, beautiful lighting and complex level design, best settings, best mansion out of the series, and the nostalgia is real with this one. I can't wait to hear the remastered soundtrack.

I am replaying it with my best friend in some parts only (because I hope to forget it in order to replay it alone as when it was new , so I let him replay the most alone) and I always think that omg this game is beautiful, atmospheric, very challenging as I like and rewarding. And long. And funny and riddiculous.
We're playing on emulator the PSX version with saving crystals because we both played it on PSX in the childage (completing it). We're collecting all the secrets without a guide so we're really playing very seriously, and now we're in the middle of Area51. With saving crystals, I guess that it's better because you're tense all the time to every square you reach and you've to think better where to save strategically. It gives more immersion, I love it.
My favourite title by far forever and ever.

Glad to read there is so much appreciation for TR3 still.

It is often treated by less enthusiastic gamers as a controversial game because it hadn't dramatically changed course and it dared serve up the same basic gameplay as the two previous games. That added to its high level of difficulty, particularly the PS version, very much split opinion.

I still think it is the pinnacle of the series with TR4 only just behind. Love all the old games, even TR5, my least favourite.

Yes indeed.

Is there any mod that turns heal crystals into the save ones?

Not yet. But will be. Work in progress.
