So I am thinking of buying Persona & Persona 3 for PSP, is this a good idea?

I can't speak for the first game.
But Persona 3 Portable is supergreat, except that the story loses almost all of the dramatic impact Persona 3 FES had.

Well if I had never played P3FES, would the story still have somewhat of an impact on me?

It really is. n.n
I haven't played Persona 1, but if you get it, you should play it before Persona 3, imo. But get Persona 3 FES if you don't want to laugh during the really tragic moments of the story. And then get Persona 4, as that one is all happier and lovey-friendship and I think you'll enjoy it. And then I'll love you long time. <3

Hmeeeeeeeeeeh. A lot of the more dramatic moments are just hilarious in P3P.

Not that this wasn't the case in FES (it totally was, but less so) but the drama worked better there. P3P adds a lot of unneeded extra dialogue that serves only as exposition.

And FES has character models during story scenes and animated cutscenes. P3P only has static images and text. Also, FES has an epilogue that P3P lacks.

But in terms of actual gameplay, P3P is better.

Ah ok, I think I can do without all that stuff. I would get FES, but it's harder to find in stores here and my PS2 is about to give out so there would be no point. I will just get P3P if anything.

I recommend that you play as the girl. Picking her may make the menus pink and change all the sexy music to far worse tracks, but her Social Links are actually enjoyable and endearing, unlike the guy's.

!

Do their stories change depending on the sex? Or is it just to add variety?

^ I don't think so. But you can make her spend a lot of time while the screen is black with a dog and a 10 year old.
