Bartolo certainly presents himself as an enigmatic figure of mystery in the title screen, something which sadly does not translate into the game itself - he only speaks in one cutscene!

On the vegetable matter: you would have to learn to call them courgettes (French) not zucchini if you lived in the UK, that's what we generally call them.

If you called them zucchini a lot of people here wouldn't know what you meant either. Describing them as green long cucumbers would actually be even more confusing because our typical cucumbers are green and long. In decent markets courgettes can also be sold yellow, mottled green or stripey.

What is funny and weird is that we've ended up talking about vegetables in a TR gaming forum.
I think you find US call Zucchini

Talking

Bartoli was a really nice guy

This is how I envisioned Bartoli getting across the Floating Islands to the Dragons Lair

Hmmm... I wouldn't say that Bartoli has next-to-no presence in-game. He appears off and on in various cutscenes and it's not until the final few levels that I think he and Lara treat each other as threats.

Lara is more "chasing Bartoli's trail" than she is actively working to thwart him. I actually think this "man in the shadows" approach works for Bartoli in this game. He is a mysterious leader and has a lot of pawns to do his work for him. We don't get to "know" him as a villain or a character because he & Lara never really interact. Their paths cross often but Lara is usually a few steps too far behind Bartoli.

All that said, it did take me years of replaying the game to realize who Bartoli is. His CGI appearance is way off from his in-game appearance, and he is not characterized enough in the game to really distinguish him from any of his thugs. That's probably one shortsight as far as him being distant & shadowy as a villain.

It would be interesting what an Italian thinks of the video, as the Italian language was taken from a speech I heard on the internet, which I had no idea what it was about, then I cut and paste it in

I have no idea what it said, but it sounded really good to my ears, it sounded very Italian, and just how Bartoli would speak it, and just hope it was not swearing

PS.....I did try an Italian text to speech program, but it sounded rubbish.

Anyway it gave you a laugh

Ahah yes it definitely did! Don't worry, it doesn't say anything bad! It's just a bunch of random speeches which, tranlated, become:
"My name is Vittorio...!"
"...Fast and of high quality!"
"Why don't you try (saying it with) your words?" <- kinda
"...efficient, fast and...!"
