I think it makes the world of difference. You aren't actively saying you live in X house. But then again your name is quite an uncommon one so I reckon you'd be easier to locate.

Personally I'd find it hard to believe that there'd be someone dodgy on a Video Game forum based on Tomb Raider & Lady Gaga
So really you can show it and nothing bad will come out of it |

What are they going to do? Look it up and try to find you among the thousands of people that share your birthdate?

It makes it easier to find you. E.g. suppose someone knows your name and would like to know your address, and has a really big database of names and addresses. For some names, there will be only one address, but for others (John Smith), thousands. If they have just the birthday, only every 365th of them is even in the running. If they have the full birth date, you can again throw out at least 99 of every 100 people.
This is mostly relevant for ads and tracking. Websites that want to create a complete user profile of you will have typically some bits and pieces of information, e.g. "John Smith likes to drink beer", "John Smith lives in New York City", "John Smith lives in Berlin", "John Smith has college education", "John Smith doesn't have a car", "the guy who uses this computer most often reads a lot about fungi", things like that. To form all these snippets into one whole set, and throw out those that really mean other people, the tracking services need as much information about you as possible. The more websites that have your birth date, your real name and so on, the easier it gets for them. The information how old you are is also relevant to tracking and ads. If possible, websites will show different ads to a 60 year old person than to a 20 year old one. If you have an evil internet stalker who wants to find you, then it does help him to know your birth date… but only a little. Individuals typically don't have these long lists that I mentioned before. |

My name, age, DOB and location are public here.
That's a lot, tbh. Maybe a bit too much? I wouldn't be worried, tho. None of y'all have seen my face, so you can't be certain you'd see me on the streets. Last edited by Weemanply109; 24-06-12 at 16:49. |

I'm so not internet concious but I don't really care, tbh. I throw my information out everywhere, lmao. If you google my name, or better yet my email address, all of my profiles everywhere on the web come up which really just makes it easier for myself when I'm forgotten my username to somewhere

Say anything bad about 'The Fame' on the Lady GaGa thread and eat your words. I'd hire an Assassin on Xtina. xoxo Lawl, Just kididng. Last edited by Weemanply109; 24-06-12 at 16:51. |
