The whole of the Netherlands is flat except for a small part in the south.
North-west Germany is also flat but most of Germany is hilly or with mountains.
So, yes, the part of Germany we could see from the baloon is indeed very flat, just like the Netherlands.

There are not that many traditional windmills left around here.
There is a wooden one in Ter Apel which we could see from the balloon.
It'sd in one of my pictures.

In Turku (where I live) there's still lots of colourful leaves, covered with snow. Looks kind of artistic but I would've liked to enjoy autumn's colours longer. Well, the Mother Nature doesn't ask what we want.

Titia, Your parents' house has the most awesome location in the whole city. Surrounded by trees, placed on the lawn, cut off from the city noises... For me, it would be a place to be born, live and die in. I can imagine no better.

Meanwhile, I tried to compare those balloon pics with Google map. It's very claryfing to see those places from two different angles - those windmills are actually in two different places, while I previously thought it's the same set. The closest wall of the first photo group is distant to the balloon in at about 12 kilometres - so it's all even bigger than it looks in the pictures.

Finding the balloonist's house is really hard, so I might fail it.

And Your trip appears to be myth-busting as well. Google painted Ter Apel channel blue, and I always wanted to know if their water is fake or not... Well I always supposed it is, but now we have a confirmation.
