Power line networking
Not really sure where this thread should go so the generic section will do.
I have a question for you tech experts, how well does Power line Ethernet work? I want to use this to install a wireless access point on another side of a house, a wireless signal repeater is pretty useless because it will just amplify a slow connection due to bad WiFi signal. Due to the distance and structure of the house it's too difficult to run an Ethernet cable, so will Power line do? I've heard that Power line doesn't work as well with old wiring, and the wiring in this house dates back to the year 1960, and the extension of the house 1978 (I've checked the wires and at least a large amount of the wiring is original). Also, the consumer unit is RCD protected, apparently Power line doesn't work well with RCD protected circuits, and can even cause the RCD to trip. Should I try anyway? Thanks for advice in advance |

My Mum's house is from 1902 and the wiring works just fine with a powerline adaptor. I'd give it a go, they're great and pretty reliable in my experience.
