Seen this today and I have to say it wasn't what I was expecting. The only comedy in it was in the trailer. I really enjoyed it. It was very dark and creepy and the acting was fantastic and I think the character Victoria is one of the best female leads in a Burton movie for a long time. Now good bit aside I was bored in the middle of the movie and it sort of seemed like they threw in random sub-plots for the sake of it like a series of happenings with no real build ups and quick, lame resolutions. It really suffered in the end and got a bit too over the top with the sub-plots and random character arcs just seemed to be thrown in for the sake of it. It was great up until the end really apart from a few dialogue heavy scenes in the middle that bored me and didn't really set up any conflict or add anything new to the film. The sub-plots should maybe have been explored more for fuller effects and then it would have been excellent. It had the potential to be a four star movie and for me ends up as a three.
The verdict I will give is it's a fun, dark, Ghost story with interesting characters, sets and great acting and an amazing prologue, one of the best female protagonists since Edward Scissorhands and a big shout out to Eva Green who commanded the screen. Not one actor was weak but the ending was too over the top with too much random events. The good definitely shows better than the bad. I had fun and would gladly re-watch it again. The trailer makes it looks like a mediocre comedy about monsters. The actual film is very dark. Last edited by Tonyrobinson; 12-05-12 at 21:40. |
