well i dont play, but ive had 2 musicial neighbors. 1 played the guitar, and now another plays the piano. but we never complain, they're practicing. its not their fault the walls are thin. plus, its like having a performance in your own home.
when i first heard the piano, tho, i joked that it was a ghost. but it was just our neighbor.

i'm lucky really, because i live in a semi-detached house and neither the neighbour nor my parents have any problems with me playing my guitar loud

I would like to have a go at the drums. But I guess that's never going to happen. Not in this household. lol

For now, I only annoy them mildly, when I suggest they should buy me a guitar.I have to learn something to demonstrate I'm serious about it before I can convince them.

My mom is constantly complaining "Can you please play some other time?" or "Can you please play something different? Or you know, a real song for once?" Fact of the matter is, I'm not going to play something different. The piano's too big to move into another room, so, I resolved this issue by buying a keyboard to put in my bedroom. My room is the only place I can play my keyboard, but the problem is, this room is right above my parents' bedroom. So when I play the keyboard, they can hear me hitting the keys (the force of it, not the music) through the floor. I always play at night (when they're going to bed, unfortunately) so I'll hear another infamous "Can't you play some other time?! It's 1 AM!" Basically, I never get to practice without that woman complaining.

Needless to say, it makes me want to kick my mother down a flight of stairs King Leonidas-style.

So, fellow musicians. Does your family bicker when you practice? Or do you have your own sanctuary you can retreat to and play without bothering anyone? (Any suggestions if you have some?)
OMG!! i hate it!!! cuz like i play the guitar and violin and i was like practicing virbrato cuz i just learned it and my moms yelling "Nick stop playing that crap"

Oh same here, dude, I've wanted to play drums for years and my parents are like "lol right." I think the only way they'd let that happen is if I got an electronic/MIDI drum set, but... eh, I'll pass on that.

LMAO!! I can totally empathize. Haha. Vibrato's hard, though! I can do it with my violin, but not the proper way.. just the amateur you're-doing-it-wrong way.

See I posted a similar thread in Technical Support a week or two ago, where my solution was headphones. However, I think you are saying you already do it?Who are you, Jerry Lee Lewis?! That's the style I play too!!! Pure rock and roll!

The problem is that our floors are kind of old and noisy... They creek a lot, so you can hear every weight-related movement from the room above you. I play anything from soothing new age to key-pounding rock... Doesn't matter what style it is, or how soft or quietly I play, they can STILL find something to gripe about!
