Legalized gambling?
Do you support it?
As a Libertarian, I do. Not because it's fun, but because people should have the ability and the breadth to make responsible decisions, and to pay through the nose for their irresponsible ones. More profit for the casinos and the businesses to benefit from the foolish arithmetic dropouts. Besides which, making gambling illegal tends to result in illegal gambling operations, which results in, and is a result, of a high crime rate. What's your opinion? |

i actually do, because there is one country (not really a country) i have been in , they depends totally with gambling, and its how amazing this country is getting richer and richer, and everyone like to work in there.
Beside they earn a really good salary, that "country" don't have taxes. It's all from the casinos in there, and just recently they have build another casino, and the world largest one if im not wrong. adding every casino in there they have in total aprox 27 casinos. |

I'm not so sure about making gambling legal. Sure, people should be free to make their own choices about whether or not to gamble. Like smoking and drinking, it's a habit that can get out of hand and be harmful to the individual as well as their family. Legalizing gambling could well bring down illegal gambling operations. I doubt it'll happen anytime soon because a lot of people still view gambling as a little iffy morally, if not downright evil.
Similarly, Paranoia, what do you think about legalized prostitution? |

Prostitution and gambling are two completely diffrerent things... But I think people should have the option to gamble if they choose to. Like Paranoia said, people should have the opportunity to make responsible decisions and be rewarded on occasion, then suffer the consequences when they make poor ones.

It's legal here, so I don't know what it would be like to be in places where it wasn't, so yes I support it.

I don't really. I have a license to work at a pokie venue. I don't do that work anymore because it's too depressing seeing the people who can afford it least losing the most. You can tell it's their shopping money or bill payment that they are feeding through the machine. The lure of winning back the losses compounds itself.
"its their own choice" I can hear people saying (who have oviously never experianced this) . Well yes its is. But some people need saving from them self. Some are just too weak minded to walk away. The only people who really make money are the people at the end of the line the owners and the government. And you can be sure they don't gamble. "they'll only go some where else- an illegal casino" Only a small percentage are in the loop as to where these are. The average joe on the street doesn't unless he already HAS a problem. "it'll stop illegal casinos" Yes to a degree. But they had limited clientelle untill it was legalised and people knew what was out there Remember, whatever you win is what someone else has already lost. There are always more losers than winners in gambling. |
