Default Securom, DRM and all that

Just wondering if anybody know if this game will come with Securom. What kind of DRM will it have, and will it have install limits? Really hope not, as that's a real nobuy for me :/

I don't think it will have SecuROM. Legend and Anniversary didn't have it and after what happened to EA (Spore) Eidos would be quite stupid if they used SecuROM for TRU.

Actually TRL & TRA did have Securom. Just an old version that didn't check for online activation through the internet.

So if Eidos do use the latest version of it, then it'll most likely use the same safety as Spore.

Yes we use Securom, but we dont use the hardcore settings.. No limits on install/uninstall etc.. no online activation.. just needs disc.

This might be a dumb question, and I dont mean any disrespect.
But Ive had this question for the longest time now, and no one ever really seems to know the answer...so here goes, feel free to ignore.

Why do game designers do that? Make a game need the playing disc?
I do own all my games legally... but I always get frustrated with the "insert disc" part. I like to keep my discs pristine and locked away safely, in their cases, to prevent damage and them getting lost (and my pc wont shut down if theres a disc in the drive so you have to take it out/put it in every time)
At the end of the day it doesnt even stop piracy, since there are so many NoDvd/CD cracks available on the same day that the game gets released anyway? Wouldnt it be easier on everyone to just make the game run directly?
IMO its just annoying at the moment...and everyone does it?

K simply put. If it doesnt ever need a disc, whats to stop you installing it, then give it to your mates, who install it, who then give it to their mates, who then install it.

Ie its to ensure that only the holder of the disc can play it. we HAVE to put something on the code to stop simple installing and returning of the game for refunds or enable people to play without having paid etc. If we could ensure that people didnt do this then we wouldnt need to check for the disc on startup. Its the bare minimum protection we can do.

It helps stop casual piracy, we know we cannot stop the professional pirates.

Thanks for that. I didnt question the validity of doing it, I just didnt quite understand the reasoning. And it makes more sense now, if I think about it that way.
Im all for you guys protecting your stuff, so by all means, do what you have to

I personally would always try and keep the protection as simple as possible. I know it will get cracked at some point, so last thing i want to do is force DRM stuff on people making them feel they have to get a cracked exe to play the game.

Securom is removable from the system, but people dont seem to realise that anything wrapped in securom (demos are wrapped too but without the cd check) will simply put it back on again.
