TR1: FMV sound won't stop skipping
I've used the XP installer, dgVoodoo, and VDMSound, like I'm supposed to. Nothing I do seems to make the cinematics play without it sounding like someone is farting over top of them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
- Tom Edit: Dunno if it'll help, but here's my diag.txt made from Diagnose.exe I've seen touted quite often 'round here. ------------------------------------------------------ Diagnostic tool developed for www.tombraiderforums.com ------------------------------------------------------ Version : 3.0 Author : Simulation Select All (Ctrl A) then Copy (Ctrl C) and paste (Ctrl V) the text in Notepad into a reply on the forum. Unfortunately, neither of those helped. I also tried Standard and No Acceleration just for fun, but no dice. Stupid cutscenes still sound like thbbbt thbbbt pfffft. The rest of the game is fine, but I'm very obsessive about things playing perfectly and it's hard to watch the FMVs when someone is raspberrying all day. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

1. Go to C:\Tombraid folder.
2. There you'll find this file: hmiset.cfg Code:
[DIGITAL] DeviceName = Sound Blaster 16/AWE32 DeviceIRQ = 7 DeviceDMA = 1 DevicePort = 0x220 DeviceID = 0xe016 [MIDI] DeviceName = No MIDI Device DevicePort = 0xffffffff DeviceID = 0xffffffff Code:
[DIGITAL] DeviceName = Sound Blaster 16/AWE32 DeviceIRQ = 5 DeviceDMA = 1 DevicePort = 0x220 DeviceID = 0xe016 [MIDI] DeviceName = No MIDI Device DevicePort = 0xffffffff DeviceID = 0xffffffff 3. Right click Tomb Raider (Glide) icon on your Desktop, select Properties, press Advanced button, go to SoundBlaster tab and set IRQ = 5 also. Press OK button, then once more. 4. Run TR1 via Tomb Raider (Glide) shortcut on your Desktop. |

lest you should actually explode and contaminate me the Holy Substance of the TR1 cdrom worldly incarnation
I'll name you three quick (ordered by decreasing plausibility) i. update to WinXP SP3 ii. reinstall from scratch all VDMSound stuff & ingame sound setup paraphernalia (the parameters seem right though) iii. try dropping vesa support in dgVoodoosetup iv. (I said : three) |

2. Uninstall VDMSound, delete TR1 folder. Reboot. Install VDMSound. Reboot. Install TR1 via TRAI, choosing DgVoodoo. 3. Go to C:\Tombraid, run DgVoodooSetup.exe, choose DOS platform, on Global tab tick "Working in VDD mode" option. Press OK button. Open Tomb Raider (Glide).vlp file on your Desktop with Notepad, set useVESA=no and save the file. |

Okay, I did all that. Still no change at all. It's not any better or worse or anything at all. Pop pop pop. Same stuff. Sigh. If you have any more ideas, I'd love to try them, if not, thanks anyway for all your help and patience.
Edit: After all that, I ran diagnose.exe again for fun. I got an error of some kind, which I took a shot of here: and then here's the diagnostic result. ------------------------------------------------------ Diagnostic tool developed for www.tombraiderforums.com ------------------------------------------------------ Version : 3.0 Author : Simulation Select All (Ctrl A) then Copy (Ctrl C) and paste (Ctrl V) the text in Notepad into a reply on the forum. hmmm...
still I can spot some other tweakable parameters lurking, before I start going pfffft thbbbt mphtsxz myself for example, try fiddling with the ;; forceSampleRate = 22050 figure hidden in vdms.ini, that is uncomment it first, and then try out 11025 through 22050 to 44010 to infinity and beyond! another thought : on that vlp shortcut properties sheet, advanced, soundblaster tag, output -> change device ID (DirectSound vs. Wave) and/or buffer ms size... backup current config data and experiment a bit Last edited by gidierre; 24-11-08 at 22:06. |

After much fruitless tweaking, I am just going to be sad and move on to Tomb Raider 2. I'll just play Tomb Raider: Anniversary instead of the original once I get my hands on it. Thanks once again for all the help and patience!
