Default alternative for eidos to longer development times

having in mind:

-. the dissapointment of the DLC exclusive for xbox.
-. the shortness of TRU.
-. the lack of answers to already known questions.
-. the lack of magical-magestic areas
-. the lack of alternative and explorations areas.
-. the lack of the tomb raiding feeling (even when improved to TRA)

i would recomend that instead of developing a new game to bring out next year, you people should take advantage of all those epic moments that werent in TRU and develop more DLC. not exclusiv this time, MS has already their 2 ones. instead develop new expantions sets for each level and make it available every 4 or 5 months,

this way the benefits would be:

-. since the extentions would be downloadable, cheap prices for the players, and no shipping/dvd burning extra costs.
-. more profits out of the same game.
-. time to improve some critic areas from TRU.
-. better reviews
-. experimentation with possible new features for next TR.
-. time to develop a propper game.
-. plus other possible profts you would be able to get.

the extras should be aside from the main story but complementing it.

med sea: give lara the option to find another cave hole behind the main temple where she could actually dive and find inside the dry ruins some info about that island, who populated it, how long and what did they did over there, and how it came to sink. perhaps an old diary, some other urban structures, houses, rooms, funiture in the dried parts, a sunken ship cementery (phoenician, roman, greeks, egyptian spanish galeons and even that venecian boat thought to be a legend (cant remember the name now,)) to explore a few new puzzles, new enemies. "white" sharks, whales, dolphins, barracudas, moreys, sword fishes. and make the level look overpopulated.. perhaps instead of just swimming around with some regular sharks you could add some big band of hammerhead sharks as consecuence of a puzzle so yor way back to the yacht wouldnt be that easy as it was i the game.

thailand: keep most of the level the way it is, but add istead a side area. big enought as to be really explorable... it needs to be surrounded mostly by trees since its supposed to be a jungle. and add some explorers camps. but most important, add richard crofts camp, and add to it lost pages of his diary. with info abot the place and about what he thinks of natla, before knowing her real plans. add some other areas where you can see what nagas do when the night comes. like impaled locals, hanging people on some trees. and lots of creepy moments. but no eneme really... perhaps a bigger spider, and some cages just like those richard used to catch the thralls.

manor: beside the regular mini level it was, you should add some open door, and let us explore at least everyroom that wa available in TRA. make em al burned down and smokey. this time the challange shouldnt be other than collecting all trophies from her home. like her childhood diary, some of her fathers notes, scion pieces, excalibur, that plus the chance to get lost around the fire.

mexico: this level should give the player the chance as in thailand to feel in a jungle... it was quite nice to have such an open place, but it wasnt really a jungle feeling... no chance as in thailand to get lost along the trees. of course those would be off road moments. so my point it could be perfectly added a whole new area with out the motorbike. giving you the chance to explore between trees and getting lost among the bushes. then finding a right spot between the trees where you could see some poachers caging animals and raiding some temples. then it would be up to you to free the animals (if so they wouldnt attack you in the level again -just the panthers-) and the rest of the area would consist in getting to discover another temple. perhaps quetzalcoatl temple, where there you get to see actualy the bones of the feathered snake. it should be just magic this level. having in mind TRU had not really nice chances to show superlative magical places, maybe this DLC MADE FOR EVERYONE would we the chance to it.

jan mayen island: this level as the ones before would allow you while exploring the maze to find a secret entry to the actual hall of gods. filled with giant statues of fallen heroes and guarded by the valkiries. but not only statues. it should be a temple builded with thrones and rooms and be able to see actually skeletons7 momified kings sitting, just like qualopec. of course they wouldnt stand. but it would be a good easter egg. the rest of the temples rooms would allow to explore deeply the story of the atlanteans/ancients. and more of their story. perhaps hints on how qualopec and tihocan came to be... natla included. some more furniture, statues, and story would the best reward, since already the main mission of the game is to recover the hammer. some hints on other mass destructon weapons, excalibur or the scion, and some others would be also gladly seen.

arctic: and this should give the player the most surprising conection to the rest of the game. the beginning was quite interesting, but it lacked originality once inside the dry area. instead of just entering helheim, give the player the chance to explore other places. some more atlanteans like structures. base the rest of this new openly discovered area into perhaps the lost island from TRA at least. place some atlanteans mutants converted into thralls. the flying, the centaurs, and the cat like ones all around with the already used thralls... this way the level not only would be huge, but also "EPIC"... it is important that not only the level would focus on fighting, and since the rest of the story will be dedicated to natla and her mother. it would be grandious to see cutscenes where lara hears natla talking to someone, (tihocan perhaps) throu one of the portals, or she finally killing him, dont know,.. just make it more interesting for the player.

i think this way eidos would take as much as posssible from a single game, and would allow the player and eidos to wait for longer times releases.

i know i posted this in the suggestion thread. but im not really sure it should belong there since its for the current TR. and either in the TRU suggestion thread since its not for the game itself but for the add ons (DLC).

I personally don't care for downloadable content cuz its annoying to have to download stuff. I rather pop a CD in. I have XBOX360 but idk how to connect it and stuff to download chapters or w/e.

well then it would get a bit more expensive for crystals... but i guess they could sell 3 episodes first and 3 episodes later as a dvd or in a dvd collecion edition... or even resell/relauch the game a year later with the extra conctent just like they did with TR1 collector edition and both unfinished bussines and shadow of the cat

Hmm that's interesting about the dvd thing.... well if they want to take the time to put a bunch of cutscenes on a dvd then I can't say I'd buy it but I'd still love to see it... I'm not sure if they relaunch a TRU with extras if it would sell that great.. I personally am over TRU

well im not sure you read the whole first post. the extras wouldnt be just a bunch of cutscenes. im talking abot complete new opened areas, that would make TRU exactly double or even longer, since some of the levels are really short. that plus everything they would include to my segestion, plus what other fans would suggest,.. im sure there would be chance in this possible 2 years time to add as much as possible t the game.

i know i would buy it and some other ones would we already have people buying xboxes for the DLC.. it would definitely be a good move towards both the fans and the refreshment and development of the next game.

I think it would be a good move for eidos to make the downloadable content available for other platforms. Im sure they would make more money than they Microsoft is giving them.

I'm certain the opportunity Microsoft presented was good for the development of Tomb Raider. Instead of shelling out a new Tomb Raider every November (a ridiculous pressure to put a developer under), they can release downloadable content via DLC.

This keeps the company going, the developers aren't required to update the engine used because they are expansion packs for Underworld. Whilst everyone is looking left, they're going right, buying themselves more time to develop Tomb Raider 9.

I like that alternative.
Hopefully (for the users) it wouldn't be eDlC though.
