Default Marketing Tomb Raider

Does Lara need better marketing? Back in the 90's she was in a couple commercial and she had a variety of products for purchace (lunchbox FTW), and, recent games, advertised Ducati and Jeep. But dont forget the Sola wetsuit in TR2.

So, does Lara need to do more marketing and campaigning to get herself out there again, and have a few well place advertisements done. I mean, Imagine Lara in a Pepsi Commercial You all know that'd be kick ass She could do more vehiclesand equipment, maybe more sports and clothing advetisments

You all know she needs it

Lara's marketing has been horrible every since TR AOD. There is some belief that Lara has to be "made new" every time, that she somehow lacks currency with each outing and is somehow passe. Contrast this to Batman or, more closely, James Bond. These characters may be updated, but each time their makers never assume that they aren't cool and that somehow there needs to be an apology for what they are at their core.

Eidos errs by not celebrating Lara's core identity as a tough, sexy 90's icon of feminine smarts, style, wile and strength, and seems to be somehow ashamed of their own creation. This comes through in the indifferent marketing and the constant need to "reinvent" her. The attitude should be "If you're too stupid to understand how cool Lara is, then stick to GTA Vice City or some other moron game for mindless nihilists".

That would actually be very cool.

I don't think EIDOS is ashamed of her as much as they haven't really done a good job of keep their finger on the pulse of the gaming world.

I think a bigger issue is Lara became much larger than Tomb Raider and I don't think anyone expected that. It's got to be hard to build a game that lives up to a character like Lara Croft. We the fans expect the game to do just that. We want to see Lara, in game, living the adventures that we expect of a character who's become larger than life. CD & EIDOS/SEE are trying to fill some HUGE shoes.

I think where TRO is concerned, the best thing the fans can do for themselves is keep an open mind.
