Angry ACER = root of all EVIL

About two years ago, I bought this laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 3694. After a while, I noticed the battery lasted only about half an hour and this quickly decreased to a few minutes. This was a year after I had bought the damn thing, so no warranty. Now, one year later, the charger starts to complain. There seems to be something wrong with the end of the cable (the part you plug in the laptop). I can't move too much (when it's on my lap) or the laptop will turn off (no power). This is getting really annoying.
I checked the price of the battery and charger, and they're not exactly cheap.

Should I buy them or just get a new laptop? (My brother will let me buy his almost brand new Samsung for a good price )

I did a quick search on the internet, and it appears I'm not the only one with this problem, by far. I'm actually quite lucky the thing is still alive after two years. Has anyone here had bad experiences with Acer laptops?

This happens with all electrical appliances which use a rechargable battery, with minor variations.

Rechargable batteries can only be charged a certain amount of times before the battery life and performance decreases. Having your laptop on charge constantly will quicken this process. My laptops (A DELL) had a battery that used to have a 2hr battery life but because I had it on charge all the time, the battery has decreased drastically and now as soon as I take the charging plug out, my laptop turns off. It is incredibly frustrating. Its like a NDS, after 500 charges, battery life decreases by 25%. It happens with most electrical products! Ask yourself these questions:

1) Has your laptop you have currently been good and worked and been generally useful?
2) Do i really need to upgrade right now?

If to question 1 you answered YES, then buy a new battery but hunt around the internet first for new batteries. You may get them cheaper than you think?
If to question 2 you answered YES, buy the Samsung laptop but I warn you! Sooner or later you will have the same problem as you do now with the battery life being decreased! It happens to every laptop eventually, even the best!

Hope this helps!

PS ~ An ACER?! God, I hate those laptops! They really should burn in hell!

Thank you very much for this useful info!
Yes, you are right, I did let it charge all the time (because it needed to be recharged so fast). I know it will happen to any battery, I was just wondering if the laptop was worth getting a new (expensive) battery. Will another problem occur after I get it?

However, the charger is cheaper than the battery, I think I'll get that instead. Yup, that's what I'll do.

Thanks everyone!

Edit:
And remember, avoid Acer.

If your upgrading Get a macbook / macbook pro and if you have to run windows on it. We get up to 1000 cycles and that will maintain at least 80% of the charge before wear and tare and thats a 7 hour battery each charge.

I've had my MacBook 2 and a half years now and i still get about 3 hrs minimum from mine (providing i turn the screen brightness down a bit, and don't play any games!) The new ones however have a 6=7 hour battery!!!
